Morning CR

Personally, I took advantage of the fall and grabbed a minuscule top of 1500 at 210(all I could get online, couldn't be bothered phoning).

I liked the fact that things are in line in spite of all the Winter carnage and particularly liked this line in the TS:-

Our Balance Sheet continues to strengthen with net cash balances growing significantly in 2010

I DO like a company that can convert turnover to cash in this manner!

Good luck to all.

Looks like a few traders scalping but if anything having met forecasts this year then with no snow next year the forecasts are easier to meet imo.

Personally all these stocks that see their price hit through a 'snow one off' over the coming weeks I'll be looking to buy for a trade at least.

A decent trading update bearing in mind the weather imo.

Going fwd nxt year should benefit from none of this bad weather (hopefully, we're due a warmer one surely?).

Ingredient cost rises are a concern but they are for all food manufacturers at the moment and retailers must know that - dunno what the alternative to coconut on a snowball is or whether LEE's have competitors that can buy coconut cheaper. Personally I think rising material costs is a good excuse for manufactureres to pit up prices even more.

A PE of 8 and a 3.5% divi, 4 times covered - still looks cheap to me.

and surely the investment choice is on the forthcoming 12 mths - not those consigned to history ?

Skyracer - can you really base an investment decision on two weeks bad weather?

What are Lee's going to say? We've beaten or we've met forecasts despite severe weather at the end of the year I expect.

Investors will make allowances surely? If you've met forecasts or beaten despite the weather then you're doing even better aren't you?

We'll see soon anyway, trading statement imminent I suspect. If the statement is a bit weak then perhaps you'll get LEE cheaper, if it's strong despite the weather you'll probably pay a lot more.

I can't base investing on short term blips in the weather tho - LEE has to deal with hot and cold summers too where they sell Ice Cream Wafers, par for the course. It's how LEE ae doing over 12 months imo.

Skyracer - I can see how HMV and Next would be affected by the snow with lower footfall from non-essential trips but everyone still needs to get to the supermarket to pick up bread and milk so they might as well buy cakes at the same time. Looking at Lees locations I can`t see why they would have had many distribution issues because the main motorway networks have remained passable by and large. I guess Waverley is Summer business anyway so probably less affected by the snow. All IMO DYOR :)

Hi CR, HMV and Next both reported adverse effect of snow. Lees deliveries and sales will have been affected so I am being cautious until I read the trading update.

Whole divi comes as a year end payment. 7.2p last year, might be 10p this year with this earnings hike?

Trading statement Jan 6th or there abouts - got to see buying ahead of that I'd have thought - already said they'll be ahead.

"The Company remains cautiously optimistic in respect of the second half of the
year and expects that both sales and pre-tax profits will be ahead of market
forecasts for the full year"

To say that at the interims is pretty confident imo.

nice timing cfro - bouncing bang on the chart trend - t/s early Jan should be enjoyable imo.

Dipped my little toe in today. Best to buy when nobodys looking. A decent set of results and investors will see how cheap these are. And right on that trendline on the chart, which has to be a good buying point.

I think much like JDG and FSG today - punters wait till they see the price on the up and then it's a mad scramble to buy.

Anyway - Jan t/s will light these up imo, if they don't get bought up before.

Northern Foods 'taken out' by Irish food firm Greencore today, with price up 25%. Described as a merger but just a way for Greencore to get the London listing and gain tax efficiencies by remaining an Irish company for tax purposes.

Maybe not the precise read-across to this food co, but an interesting premium nonetheless.

Pretty illiquid to say the least so a small sell or two can hit it imo.

Still - that's good for buyers if they want in.

PE looks like it's around 6 and a lovely divi too that comes in total as a final divi.

On the up even as a major shearholder sells a few - must be a very keen buyer about - and why not? :-)

Dare say that sharecrazy tip has stirred the loins of a few.

Cheers S.M.

At least the market is waking up to LEE at last.

The one thing that that tip doesn't really highlight is the recent move to exporting to the middle east - slow burner but it will add to earnings still.

Also, the co pays a divi which is about 4 times covered historically - so that shoud be 9p+ imo this year and as it doesn't pay an interim divi the full 9p or whatever it turns out to be will be paid sat the final results. That's going to be about a 4% final divi.
