the tantalum part of the sandwich of graphene and other materials (solid state memory systems) is getting thicker...
so more takers IMO for the mine's output....

interesting to see other mines in the tantalum sector
like news of this one:

I've just been reading about how Galaxy's Mt Caitlin deposit is being re-opened by a real penny dreadful General Mining corp GMM. They are getting 50% for $25m.
They basically have no money and will have to raise the lot via a new 100m share issue then from profits over the next couple of years.

The interesting aspect is they are re-opening it for the tantalite mainly instead of the lithium, but will be selling the lithium as well.
The resource M+I+I is 16.4mt at 1.08% Li, 157 ppm Ta2O5 and 88 ppm Nb2O5. First question, how much is Nb2O5 worth and do we have any? In the whole 39 page document from GMM to shareholders there was no rationale for this nor any mention of expected returns etc. All very interesting. For any of this we have to go to the investor presentation at the beginning of July.

They plan to mine and process 800kt/a, which they claim will give them 80kt of 5% spodumene and 125,000 lbs of Ta2O5. They also give current market prices of $470/t for 6% Li2O and $90/lb of Ta2O5.
(Interesting they give a price for 6% Li2O but are producing only 5%).]
They also do not talk quality of the Lithium, which to many, even in the industry seems to be a Huh? moment. (ie my call to AJM, they had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned 'quality')
It also explains the low price for the lithium.

Total yearly returns on their numbers = $37.6m Li, and $11.25m Ta

This bit is interesting....."Targeting increase in Tantalum recovery from 10-15% to 65%+"
The 10-15% recovery will not give them 125,000lbs of tantalum they mentioned earlier. i thought our 49% was bad, until reading that. There 125k lb of tantalum is assuming they get a 45% recovery.
Their lithium number is a bit rubbery as the give a 6% price but state they will have a 5% product with no mention of quality.

To me it seems WE have the quality product that will command a premium price, hence the MOU's with multiple parties. My last recollection of the price mentioned for high quality was north of $800/t (for 6.5%+), anyone know any different from that?

Anyway, just thought I would change the topic of conversation for a while onto a comparison with others.
I think the next resource upgrade if it takes us past 30mt will make people take notice and hopefully still over 200 ppm for the tantalum.
We have high grade lithium = more profitable, we need to work on getting that tantalum recovery up!!

the company said "recovery plant to treat up to 10,500 tonnes per month; estimated to produce around 5,000lbs Ta205 per month"What is this recover plant ? Is it a gravitational seperator ? Does it seperate the coltan from the gravel ? Can you expand.5,000Lbs = 2300kg or 2.3tonnesWhat is the % TA205 ?

Hi ryan83Im confused here , forgive me if im a little slow. Is the company exporting Ta205 ? In other words have they got a facility to extract it from the Coltan ? Coltan tantanite has to be heated to a similar temp as the sun 4000 degrees to extract Ta205. What is the % Tantalum in the mine ?

Advancements in tantalum capacitor design

Manufactures offer solid tantalum capacitors in a wide variety of different series optimized for specific characteristics and targeting different applications and market segments. These varied product series include optimizations such as lower ESR, reduced size, high reliability (e.g., military, automotive, and medical), reduced DC current leakage, lower ESL, and higher temperature. This paper focuses on two of these areas of attention: lower ESR and reduced size.

Lower ESR – Optimized for lowest ESR, these devices offer higher efficiency in pulsed or AC applications and better filtering in high-noise environments.
Reduced size – Combining the use of high-CV tantalum powder and highly efficient packaging, these devices offer high capacitance in compact sizes. These are used in space-constrained applications such as smartphones, tablets, and other hand-held consumer electronics.

cpx is one of the exciting stocks on AIM with a bright future, due to the booming supercapacitor market

so note that kenv, with its tantalum project, is very much in that segment

note this article about tantalum in capacitors, dd Aug 4 2015:

Also AFTAN bought 60% of Tantalite Valley from Magnum Mining:-

Highlights:
Conditional Tantalite Valley Project sell-down and joint venture
 Sale of 60% of the TV Project in Namibia to African Tantalum (Pty) Limited (Aftan) for R 8,000,000
(approximately A$806,160) and formation of a joint venture.
 Aftan to operate and fund the TV Project in consideration for 100% of any revenues in the 30 months
from completion.

so £380k.

KENV bought 75% of AFTAN for £660k lol. Not a bad mark up for AFTAN eh! They made almost £300k and get to keep some of the project! I wonder if AFTAN and KENV BOD members are mates?

also, KENV bought 75% of AFTAN, AFTAN own 60% of Tantalite valley.

In Aug 2014 - Tantalum has a very high melting point and has exceptional heat conducting capabilities. Tantalite ore, 30% Ta2O5, trades at US$207/kg currently, whilst the high grade 99.8% Tantalite trades at US$420/kg.

looks like you can get 35% concentrate Ta205 at $140 kg

Hi Ryan. It's now $170 per kilo. So what is the % Ta205 in this mine ?However you can also get a price for Niobium if you have a buyer who takes both.

Zed there are a few in a similar position to KENV, would like more on the all in cost before I commit funds here. But it is on my list to look at closer. Might add it to my stable of to be producers alongside STI, which imo is also worth serious consideration.

ok so

"It is anticipated that the first phase of production, commencing in Q3 2015, will see a build-up of throughput at the course recovery plant to treat up to 10,500 tonnes per month; estimated to produce around 5,000lbs Ta205 per month. The second phase of the development programme would focus on fines recovery which should increase throughput to around 15,000 tonnes per month and output of 9,200lbs Ta205 per month by mid-2017"

note that Tantalum prices at present on grey market are $177 per Kilo for 100% Ta205.

1 kilo - 2.2 lbs, so 5000 lbs = 2272 kilos = $402k per month = $4.8m per year

phase two is around double this but will be achieved in around 18 months time.

Note "Kennedy Ventures, which is focused on tantalite production in Namibia through its 75% holding in African Tantalum (Pty) Limited ("Aftan")"

so looking at revenue of $3.6m for 2016 and $7m revenue in 2017 at current prices. Need a bit more on expected all in costs to add a it more meat to it.

Admin costs look low and last placing should leave them well funded

"Board believes the £1.4 million raised will see the business to a position of being operational cash flow positive"

cast your mind back some months ago both Giles Clark and his wife both brought shares in this company. Giles Clark did not get where he is by taking a gamble and as for his wife well he is the one that has to live with her if this does not perform well.
