About Dubai Duty Free

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships launched as an ATP 250 Men's event in 1993. Since its inception, the Championship has continued to go from strength to strength. The WTA Women's tournament was added to the program in 2001. In 2009 the Men's event was upgraded to ATP 500 status, while the Women's event became a Premier level event the same year. The Women's event now alternates with Doha as a Premier or Premier 5 event, in 2016 it is a Premier event. The roll call of players in both men's and women's tournaments reads like a "who's who" of tennis stars. The tournament takes place under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai.
