Trading Update

The Board of John Lewis of Hungerford plc (AIM:JLH) provides the following update on current trading ahead of its Investor Meeting this afternoon.

Sales for the third quarter ended 31(st) May 2017 are expected to be around GBP1.96 million (2016: GBP1.86 million) around 5% higher than the previous year. The forward order book remains comparable with last year at GBP1.5m (2016: GBP1.5m).

As stated in our Interim Results, the second half year is traditionally our stronger trading period and we remain cautiously optimistic that we will achieve sales results broadly in line with the previous year, with two closed stores and a reduced cost base. However, our business remains sensitive to the prevailing market conditions and as such, uncertainty around the election and the Brexit negotiations could still affect consumer confidence. The board continues to monitor the situation closely.
