02/9/2016 12:23 | and i think a little bit of a shame and a pity that Roddie (of all people) should effectively be the one being blamed for the short position Phillis would appear to have taken in the shares ! Doing a few sums, i would think the shares look a little too cheap ! lol. | emeraldzebra
02/9/2016 11:32 | Roddie - a belated 'many thanks'. Have been bobbing about in the sea, and not well equipped with gadgets that i am clever enough to use ! | emeraldzebra
31/8/2016 10:52 | Phillis Whilst all businesses are affected by what economies do, FSJ is less affected than most. They are arguably in markets that will do well regardless of what economies will do, and they are operating in all the " right " parts of the globe. I remember when one of the many silly tip sheets ( Penny Shares, from memory ) recommended taking profits in FSJ at around 300p. their argument showed absolutely no understanding of the long term potential, and was presumably motivated by their desire to make their short term record look good. The sea is effectively the " last frontier . " Associated markets are vast. | roddiemac2
31/8/2016 09:01 | RM Simple arithmetic Surely even you can do that? A business in tune with economic swings | phillis
31/8/2016 08:33 | emeraldzebra, NB ---dollar based earnings--- "James Fisher is well placed to face the uncertainties created by the 23 June 2016 Brexit referendum result. The Group trades relatively little with the European Union being focused, outside the UK, on the growth markets of Asia Pacific, South America, Middle East and Africa. A substantial part of the Group's revenues are dollar based bringing at least a short term benefit from any fall in the value of Sterling." | roddiemac2
31/8/2016 08:18 | To serious investors , "Looking forward, we therefore expect to see a resumption of growth for the Group in the second half leading to a good improvement in the result for the full year. Dividend The Board believes that James Fisher remains well placed to provide further growth and value for its shareholders. The Board has agreed a 10% increase in the interim dividend to 8.55p per share (2015: 7.80p) payable on 4 November 2016 to shareholders on the register on ----" A great business in the making. | roddiemac2
31/8/2016 08:14 | Phillis, spob, Thank you for your well reasoned mathematical argument. | roddiemac2
31/8/2016 07:59 | not looking 'IS' way overvalued | spob
31/8/2016 07:41 | As expected Looking v overvalued | phillis
18/8/2016 09:46 | I am very impressed by the way that FSJ management have continued to execute their growth plan and take advantage of opportunities to buy high quality small companies and assets where this fits into the companies specialised niche markets. I think that they are laying a solid foundation for future growth. Whilst the past may have been about Oil support and servies I think the future will be as much about renewable energy technology and infrastructure and while we maybe dithering over the new build of large nuclear plants the vast amount of work needed to clean up the old ones just keeps growing. Although FSJ is my largest holding by far I will continue to add if the share price dips significantly, cheers | illiswilgig
18/8/2016 08:56 | Good points Roddie. Like to see much increased volumes traded. Would be v helpful. | emeraldzebra
17/8/2016 12:04 | emerald, I never say where I think a share price will be at a specific point in the future ( many a slip twixt cup and lip ), but years ago I told other local investors that FSJ was likely to make £ 20 at some point , if they continue to execute their strategy as they have done in the past. When the shares declined to around 950p on misplaced fears about their dependence on oil, it was clear that many investors did not understand the potential here. Coupled with that, there is a prevalence of short term thinking amongst investors today. bear in mind that interim results will be down on the comparable period last year. However the next six months is likely to be very different. | roddiemac2
17/8/2016 11:45 | Good to hear. Will give a few more to the grandchildren methinks. | bouleversee
17/8/2016 10:17 | And any - i mean | emeraldzebra
17/8/2016 10:16 | i agree. Any any meaningful uptick in the oil price which is sustained over a reasonable period would add very nicely to an already strong list of specialist services. i think these will nudge towards £20 around this time next year. | emeraldzebra
16/8/2016 16:40 | I think FSJ is capable of growing still. They are in all the right markets . For example, the Marine Services deal for the Galloper Wind Farm for £ 25m( announced in February ) may be followed by contracts of a similar type. If Hinkley Point gets cancelled , which looks likely , wind farm projects should receive a boost. A couple of weeks ago I spent a few days along the Suffolk coast . I looked at work being done on Sizewell beach in preparation for the installation of the export cables that will bring the power ashore from Galloper. The whole project will be complete in Summer 2017, and will provide power for 336,000 homes .Nick Henry said of their latest acquisition " "The operations of Hughes Sub Surface are complementary to those of James Fisher and, combined, they will broaden our range of services to the market, particularly to the renewable energy industry offshore." ---looks like a timely acquisition. I have thinned out a few in recent weeks . I was massively overweight in FSJ. It is still by far my largest holding.I am happy to hold these. Management have not put a foot wrong so far. FSJ still looks like a company you could hold for life ,( if you don`t need the money in the meantime. ) | roddiemac2
16/8/2016 15:24 | So, do you think they are a buy or sell at the moment, Roddiemac? | bouleversee
16/8/2016 14:44 | I think you have already explained it. On most days there are a plethora of small trades , which must mean FSJ is popular with small traders. On the 21st July this trend was broken when 846,292 were traded ( including two trades of 185,000 each ) | roddiemac2
16/8/2016 12:14 | seems to be an immense amount of 'farting about' in Fisher shares in TINY volumes....any explanation of same appreciated ! | emeraldzebra
12/8/2016 21:46 | Thanks, Roddie. I did that earlier today after I read your previous message. | bouleversee
12/8/2016 19:53 | It shouldn`t. If you want to get announcements it looks as though you will have to register your email address with the company, or phone them and say you already have , but are no longer being notified . | roddiemac2
12/8/2016 16:00 | Yes, I think I did see that, but why should that make any difference to the RNS messages? | bouleversee
12/8/2016 15:30 | Yes, I used to get them automatically. It looks as though the appointment of a joint house broker has interrupted service!------ 10 August 2016 James Fisher and Sons plc Corporate Stockbroker Appointment The Board of James Fisher and Sons plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Jefferies International Limited as joint corporate stockbroker alongside Investec Bank plc, the Company's existing broker, with immediate effect. | roddiemac2 |
