Oil soars 5pc after Saudi Arabia says Opec meeting may discuss 'stabilising market'
(11 AUGUST 2016 • 7:14PM)

...Oil has rallied by as much as 5.11pc this afternoon, hitting an intraday high of $46.30 following comments from Saudi's oil minister who said he is prepared to discuss the market situation at next month's Opec meeting in Algeria.

Members of the Opec will meet on the sidelines of the International Energy Forum (IEF) in Algeria from September 26 to 28, Qatar's energy ministry said earlier this week.

In a statement, Saudi Energy Minister Khalid al-Falih said: "We are going to have a ministerial meeting of IEF in Algeria next month, and there is an opportunity for OPEC and major exporting non-OPEC ministers to meet and discuss the market situation, including any possible action that may be required to stabilize the market."

Brent now at $47.21

Balder Viking and Tor Viking moved ahead.

Two new vessels in attendance: Dunker and Svitzer Maltby.

Piloting under Oresund Bridge?

If you trade oil, you have to track the oil news, you wont get far just staring at the chart. This might mean tracking hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, oil inventories or details of Janet Yellens speeches. They can all move poo and stuff you'd otherwise find boring. It's exactly the same thing as trying to track news about the rig if you trade Ithaca, because it's very material to Ithaca.

That was tongue in cheek really. We'll keep watching the FPF-1 for now until it's safely reached it's destination with an eye on the oil price and any other factors at the same time. I've also got my eye on SOU and IOG as with a few others here since they have been performing particularly well recently - I was fortunate enough to time those well but not without risk as with all small cap oil & gas shares.

Bounty, 'the price of oil not worth watching.' I assume that wasn't directed at me as I said I trade charts. I watch oil like a hawk and trade it.

Anyway each to there own.

As Whiskey said if the FPF-1 had returned to Gdansk to avoid the storms I'm pretty sure the share price would have taken a downturn. If this had happened without being aware of the location of the FPF-1 then the cause of such a share price reaction would have been a mystery. Having said that of course the Brent price is also a very significant factor but then I guess that's not worth watching either. Personally I'd rather be aware of what's happening before the share price reacts not afterwards. Also there is no guarantee as to what is going to happen with a platform on tow as can be seen by recent news. If you're not interested in the FPF-1 then just ignore those posts.

I think most serious investors understand markets pricing in whiskey that's not my point. I just find it amusing the vessel watch. The fact is it going to happen soon so as an investor if you think that was going to move markets you would have postioned anyway, dependant on your macro views.

Maybe lots are just bored it just conjures up images of Eddie stobart spotters that's all.

Agree entirely. The FPF-1 is now travelling west once again having completed the latest circling manoeuvre. Malcy did say on it's way again by Friday so may be heading towards Stella again already.

You can just act on the chart if you want, but the share price is acting on the movements of the rig. IMO the share price would have suffered badly if the rig had been moved back to Gdansk to avoid the storms. So sensible I think to act on rig movements then.

The new production imo will get priced-in at varying stages to varying extents in advance. Because markets look forward. When rig arrives at Stella, when the rig is anchored, when testing completes, when production starts etc. are all milestones. So worthwhile imo watching for these stages, not just waiting for project to complete.

Not really. Price charts only tell you what the price was at the time.

An idle moment on the VTS system is far more interesting. Check out where the Queen Mary 2 is right now.

Good company which I like but surely a bit desperate following the vessel.

I'm sure I'm correct in saying that after it does finally depart there are another 3 months to wait for hydrocarbons and as always I'm sure there will be some further technical delays to add to this.

Watching and acting on price charts is surely far more productive.

Looks like Octopus popped back to Aberdeen for some supplies. On way back to Stella. Eta Stella 12th August.

Fpf1 moving west again, but only for about last hour.
