23/11/2001 12:02 | Jon, thanks ZoneAlarm looks good. vallely, you can open and display as many windows as you can squeeze onto your screen. Type control-N to open additional windows. Clearly, you'll need to resize windows to ensure that you can view 2 or more synchronously. | spin doctor
23/11/2001 08:41 | FOr Firewall software, Tiny Personal Firewall scores higher than Zonealarm, and is still free. Excellent adn easy to use. They also supply NAT software for home networks - Winroute Lite, works well with cable modems from NTL and Blueyonder and is much easier to use than Wingate Taimur | taimur
23/11/2001 07:49 | Vallely & Spindoctor, To help you tile your windows quickly and easily, if you right click on a blank spot on the task bar, you can click to either 'Tile Windows Vertically', 'Tile Windows Horizontally' or 'Cascade Windows' This makes it a little easier :o) Jon T | jon t

22/11/2001 00:53 | I have been using AOL via BT line for a year and have been happy.Previously Freeserve who were appalling at the time.I tend to get logged in at 44K bps via a 56K modem.Speed & reliability generally good.Sometimes lose the connection but get back in quickly. In the future I can always switch to Telewest broadband (cables down our street)if cost /speed becomes a problem but alright for now. One problem though : level 2 can get very slow to load in the afternoon.Anyone else with the same problem ? any ideas why ? | locket
22/11/2001 00:40 | Zeus technologies - www.zeus.com - run a permanent appraisal by various parameters of about 200 UK ISP's - quite interesting. | barman92
22/11/2001 00:04 | Tom, Be careful with the numbers being thrown up in your test, I have found that they are partially dependent on the time of day that the test is run. My own connection speed varies dramatically between 6am in the morning and 5pm at night. Plus I have noted that since moving to a higher spec' machine, the speed has also increased on the ISP connection, despite being the same ISP. C | capitalist
22/11/2001 00:03 | Tom @ ADVFN - Many Thanks. Now OK. | eithin
21/11/2001 23:45 | Agree with above comments about NTL broadband. £25 monthly, no gripes about service quality or outages. Theoretically this is 512kbps, but the ADVFN test results are: Your connection speed is 1454 thousand(k) bits per second Your connection speed exceeded the theoretical maximum of the connection speed you selected. !! My one concern is about security - such that I physically disconnect when I'm not at the PC. Is firewall software desirable/essential? SD | spin doctor
21/11/2001 17:23 | Demon express appears to be £50 per month. Has anyone used it. Do you end all the BT charges as well? I am currently paying 20 to BT internet anytime, 20 to demon. # | tradesman
21/11/2001 15:57 | Anyone else not able to get Monitor last ten fifteen minutes? | mobile dealer
21/11/2001 11:55 | eithin, that url is a advertising cookie from our site. that should not be stopping you getting the monitor. call me on 020 7070 0945 and we'll try to sort you out. T. | tomj

21/11/2001 11:12 | Im using aol which i know have a completely new line from bt into the house for. On the old line it connected at 28900-32000 on the new line it connects at 45500 therefore in my case the connection speed and associated probs were due to the age of the line being used for connection. BT doesn't replace cabling as a matter of course with up to date material unless it has to. Im logged onto ol for up to 3-4 hours at a time when im in the office and only occassionaly get kicked out. This two could be down to problems with the line. As for the IE solution mentioned earlier by SC only come across one website that needs access that way and its that website that has the problem not aol! SC what kinda websites you looking at got any useful address's 8-)))))???? Regards ANdy | renda2
21/11/2001 10:07 | The whole ISP network system was in a mess yesterday and BT is still having problems today. ADVFN should want to know how different ISP's are compatible with the delivery of their service particularly if they are being blamed for poor delivery. | mobile dealer
20/11/2001 14:00 | I have used Totalise for a year, apart from a couple of minor glitches everything is fine. I use a BT line for connection. Accessing ADVFN can be slow sometimes, but any other site is fine. I normally have up to 6 windows open at once, and have an old computer. Andy. | ahkeen
20/11/2001 13:49 | Just want to re-iterate mattgordons comments above regarding NTL Broadband. Only had it 2 weeks but vast improvement on AOL. As he said odd glitch but, speed and quality excellent. Made trading alot easier. | david2000
20/11/2001 13:10 | TomJ... Re your post above. Can't get in via BT Connect but Pipex is fine. | biker
20/11/2001 13:05 | BT & Freeserve problems today. T. | tomj
19/11/2001 15:09 | One interesting thing from the stats is that the broadband speeds (ADSL etc) do not seem to be very much quicker - than the modems or am I misunderstanding it?V | vertigo
13/11/2001 12:59 | I have NTL cable (512k) installed, and have no gripes at all. Reliability is quite re-assuring, sure there is the odd glitch in the service, but i can count the number of times service has been interrupted on two hands - I've been connected since February. I do find it laughable when folk consider themselves 'serious traders', but still connect via dialup. My advice: get on a Cable or an ADSL service quicksharp... you will NEVER look back. | mattgordon |
