Thanks , IRV never seem keen on promoting their contract wins ; at least they have done an RNS this time.

The good news is that IRV is NOT part of the consortium , but puts more political pressure on the PPI model generally.

No not really a purchase - they are just part of their pay package
"The shares have been acquired in accordance the Company's Annual Variable Pay arrangements for the Executive Directors, whereby an element of any cash payment is required to be invested in the Company's shares. Company shares so acquired must be held for a minimum period of three years. "

I see a few directors have been adding including a £63k purchase by the CEO. They obviously wanted the dividend.

IRV has performed decently since mid Feb, when the market rrecovery began. I managed to buy at 396, so pleased to get in sub 400p, but we're not out of the woods yet, considering that construction output in the UK had slowed down in 2015 compared to 2014. Don't know what the current situation is yet. CLLN the other stock I bought at the same time as IRV has since outperformed it over the same period, but the share price there was at an absurd level, thanks to shorters. I expect IRV to outperform CLN over the mid/long term, meanwhile happy to take the divs and hoping they won't be cut at some stage.

Goes XD tonight for 16p.
So I bought a few more as it hasn't followed the market today.

It looks like a long slow haul up to the highs of the last 2 yrs , but look at the prospective yield figures ; if the profit estimates are anywhere near right this price is a bargain.
2017 EPS of 77p would cover a 6% yield threefold.
I would add but already got a lot.

Broker says Bloomberg has 63.5p, 70p. Anyway, topped up in ISA having sold 50% of holding much higher up. Looking for 560p plus divi.

I see Numis are guessing an EPS for 2017 of 77p. That is a whopping 17% of today's share price , it still looks a screaming buy to me even with recent share price recovery.

Hmm, well not quite the kind of debate I had hoped to initiate! I guess people don't care about goodwill and flimsy balance sheets once they have fallen in love with a share. I'm hurt that you don't care where I put my pittance of a savings pot too :-)

Some shares certainly are buy and hold material (indeed I have some that I have never sold) but shares like this that have major undulations in price not so much imv - timing entry and exit points would be much more productive if you have the time and inclination. Also interesting comment about not understanding that the group is brilliantly managed - I never said it was badly managed, brilliant managers can't do much about cyclical downturns when they are upon us.

Anyway, as people seem to be quoting Buffet (he seems to have said enough in his time to suit any situation and view point) I'll just say “I try to buy stock in businesses that are so wonderful that an idiot can run them because sooner or later, one will.”

Indeed. I'm 64 and have some shares I've held all my investing life (since 21). My Old Mum (92 and demented) only ever bought shares, never sold anything and has a portfolio to die for. OK, you get the odd disaster along the way (GEC/Marconi!), but overall buy and hold seems to have worked fine in our family.

Good for you. Although I'm a mere lad at 68 years old I have held Tex Holdings in a major way, for 32 years. Interserve for 7 years in varying degrees, so unlike most users of these sites I can say that like Warren Buffet the ideal holding period is forever.
