Avianca adopts GX Aviation for passenger WiFi services
22 June 2017: Inmarsat (LON: ISAT), the world's leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, today announces that Avianca has become the first Latin American airline group to adopt Inmarsat's GX Aviation service; the world's most advanced, globally available in-flight connectivity solution delivered by a single operator.
GX Aviation will initially be made available to passengers on approximately 125 Avianca Airbus A320, A330 and Boeing 787 aircraft, with the potential for additional aircraft to be provisioned at a later date. Avianca's GX-equipped aircraft are currently expected to be rolled out starting at the end of the year.
The contract is for a period of 10 years. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
The agreement with Avianca underlines the continuing momentum behind Inmarsat's next generation inflight connectivity services (IFC). Inmarsat now has over 1,200 aircraft installations expected under signed contracts for its IFC services. Mandates have been won from leading airlines worldwide including Qatar Airways, Deutsche Lufthansa Group, International Airlines Group, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Norwegian Air Shuttle.
