Never held Yell either. Did you notice my deliberate misquote in 1757?

wad collector - What was the history of Yell??? Wasn't it in terminal decline for several years prior becomming Hibu ??? Just interested as maybe 12 years ago I had Yell as a 'possible' but didn't proceede as it seemed to me the printed directories were ultimately going to loose out to the so called 'digital' media.

I see Hibu now use staff in India and Philipines to create their customers web sites, that's ebough for me to keep well clear ha ha!!!!

I hope Bates does NOT do a repeat on ISAT, here's one company who has a good long term future and which pays a decent divi, that's important.

A big gap up to start the week.

I cannot see any news or broker recs to explain. I did notice Inmarsat mentioned a few time on TV over the weekend connected to the missing Malaysian airliner.

I'll have some more at 663 if the market will oblige. This company ticks most of my boxes at this sort of price.

I hesitated on buying more yesterday ; wrong decision looking at the reaction to the prelims.
It is easy to comment on headlines on results , I am no expert at teasing out hidden numbers in them , especially when there are significant corporate events .

Market seems pleased with the results. Up 4.75% as I type. I have only skimmed through them.

The Inmarsat plc Board of Directors intends to recommend a final dividend of 28.82 cents (US$) per ordinary share in respect of the year ended 31 December 2013 to be paid on 30 May 2014 to ordinary shareholders on the register of members at the close of business on 16 May 2014.

Always a bit of a worry when a share price starts dropping on the day before results , esp with a couple of broker sell recommendations.
But I am toying with adding again , I think these are a safe long term bet with a good yield still.

Thanks for that ; sounds like a good City type .

The finance chief who wiped out investors' money at the firm that published Yellow Pages is joining Inmarsat.

Tony Bates came under fire after presiding over a restructuring deal at Hibu that left shareholders with nothing.

The group collapsed in July last year, but accounts showed top executives collected £6.5million in salary, short-term benefits and shares in the year to March 2013 – up from £3.8million a year before.
Satellites: Last year Inmarsat launched its first Global Xpress satellite from Baikonur in Kazakhstan

Now Bates has become finance chief of the satellite telecoms firm, and will start in June.

Chief executive Rupert Pearce said: 'I have no doubt that Tony will screw the shareholders of Inmarsat in the coming years and I very much look forward to working with him.'

This should be of interest to you holders as you have Tony Bates coming as CFO in June. This is what he did not us at hibu.

Check out the news stories on hibu (yellow pages) shareholders have been wiped out. The Times, Daily mail, Independant

Added again at 696 . It is always a bit un-nerving to continue buying a falling share but I will now forget and revisit when it is 750 again.

Bought some more on weakness at 711. I see a lot of long term upside here. Maybe not soon but over a few yrs.

Bought my trading stock back for 738. An illogical weakness I suspect. 5% in a month is what the cash would get in a building soc in 2 yrs.

Not sure that was the reason for the rise today , 1500 shares was not that big a purchase. Good to see a rise into the yr end.

Yes, my knowledge of orbital mechanics is slim, I kept an eye on it and yesterday it was in equatorial orbit inclined at 2 degrees, I assumed they would fire the apogee motor to put it int geosychronous orbit at the right time. However just had another look and it it has changed to a highly inclined 50 degrees orbit which looked a bit strange.

Sold out my trading stake and kept long term holding

Thanks for that link .It is still clearly drifting and looks set to bomb Sao Tome!
The share price is clearly not geostationary either . Time to trade.
765p and some more of mine are gone.
It might touch £8 again but the share price has been a bit volatile recently so happy to wait for a drop back .

Looks to be settling around 750p.

For those interested you can track he latest satellite launch here.

Looks like it has just been transferred to geosycncronous orbit. Zoom out to see track. It is on station when the "Speed" is zero (or very close), 63E over the Indian Ocean.

This is the 5 burn transition from launch to orbit.

Good test of investor sentiment right here. Price is right at the resistance that could not be breached in recent months. If a substantial breakout can be achieved, sellers should not appear again until the old all time high of around 825p is reached.

I do not regret a sell that I have made a good profit on ; but I do regret sells that I did not make!
The recent volatility is turning this into more of a traders share than an investors share.

woohoo... but I always sell at the wrong time and don't sell at the right time... still, it's a nice performance from my 2/3 holding that i still retain

Launched but not yet operational;

Over the coming two weeks, the Inmarsat controllers will command the satellite to perform seven chemical burns to raise Inmarsat-5 F1 to a geo-synchronous elliptical orbit, while just after Christmas, the satellite will have completed deployment of its solar arrays and reflectors. This will be followed by the electrical orbit-raising phase, taking the spacecraft to its final geostationary orbit. This is scheduled to be completed by the end of January, ready for the start of payload testing at the beginning of February.

So there remains a possibility of further trouble , but the riskiest bit is done.Share price has copied the rockets trajectory this morning - and now gone geostationary as well!
I put in a limit sell for my trading stake for 738p .Looks a good exit point for a quick 10%.
