I notice that on ShortTracker GSA Capital Partners has just dipped under the reporting threshold leaving 0% shorts in IMG (at least those above the reporting threshold) for the first time for quite a while.

Ok, I know that it doesn't mean that nobody is short on IMG but it perhaps indicates that there is some thinking that the price is more likely to go up than down at this point in time. The downside is that there is plenty of scope for IMG to get shorted at any point in time which is why I am actually just as comfortable when there is a high short position against IMG since it means that you know that at some point someone will need to buy a lot of IMG shares.

It is goods news sort off but we need to look at all the data. We didn't gain 3.5million unit sales from Apple in that report, we only gained 0.5million in volume which is what I wanted to make clear. EDIT: The reason I said it was bad news is it means we get a drop in royalties from Apple due to the change in shipments..

I think a partner of 10 years still hitting record highs in phone sales is good news, as opposed to not good news.

Yes we need 10's of millions more, but unrealistic for those to come from Apple. Ipad may get a bump when new ones come out, but it seems clear that the growth in that sector is over.

We are probably getting a little bit from the iwatch, which also set a new (but undisclosed) unit high, there has never been confirmation, but an assumption that the graphics IP in there is IMG.

Strong $ V £ will is still in our favour with regard to Apple royalities.

The thought/hope/wish is that mediatek and spreadtrum etc will eventually gather up to be 10Ms

That's not good news for us, it looks to me like we will be getting less money from Apple that quarter which is not what we need. We lose more then what we gain going by those numbers as the increase money from IPhone shipments is wiped out by the 3 million drop in Ipad shipments.

EDIT: Assuming its still true we get paid more for the IPad GPU then the lower end IPhone GPU. Either way its only a 500k increase in unit volume which is good but a very long way from where we used to be. We need to be regaining 10's of millions in volume not 100's of thousands. Every little bit helps.

$1000 per iPhone. Quite extraordinary. (yes I know they do other things)

And apparently no company is too small or too large to acquire ;-)

Record iPhone shipments bodes well.

Apple smashes expectations: record setting $78.4B in revenue on sales of 78.3M iPhones...

A great read but as always totally light on details of who is going to license it

Some good discussion here about OTOY, RT and PowerVR, especially the comments from the OTOY person. GDC 2017 should be an interesting one this year. With AMD lurking in the shadows and 120W cards being discussed, with 2 orders of magnitude efficiency increase mentioned, things could be looking up.

There is a new sub-heading in "EVENTS" tab on IMG website - Where Are We Speaking.

eg. Khronos Group.

Incidentally, I seem to recall that our new management decided to cull the Imagination Summits on cost grounds and replace them with Webinars. Is the Santa Clara event a one-off to coincide with an important product announcement, partnering arrangement or licensing deal? Or simply a reversion to holding Summits(or Summit lites).

MWC takes place before then. However there is nothing to indicate IMG participation at MWC on either web site, that I could find. That may be no bad thing as there are four days of events overload making it hard to get noticed if they have something important to say.

News held back for impact at Santa Clara? It's fun to speculate anyway.

Nice article. Of course its all about getting licensees aboard, that's obvious, but I do detect a renewed sense of positivity and optimism at KL

Wonder if timing will coincide with a product launch. Series 8 XT seems to fit the bill.

AMD are not the enemy we worked with them on the Vulkan API so it wouldn't surprise me if the guest speaker is talking about that and VR. A large part of the Vulkan API was created and based on work from AMD

EDIT: It wouldn't have surprised me if the AMD speaker talked about Heterogeneous as well but someone else is doing that.

why would an 'enemy' be invited to give a keynote in an incredibly prestigious meeting?!

Or deferred rendering IP or both?

Totally agree Prim
How exciting , worth looking at his bio, his role at AMD covers all the area's we want to play into
Mmmmmm, let's not run before we walk but if we could get AMD on board as a licensee, then it will be like going back to those lovely old 'Wild West days' again
Very happy, even if Robs not ;-)
Edit-no title or context given for Papermasters speech , wonder if IMG will be more expansive before the meeting , GDC happens only a few days before , the only link there would be Ray- tracing .....that's Gotta be the link...surely?
