Guys thanks for all your info of late.I really thought we would get a better result than what we heard. 3 years is three years and about 25% own so will take it in the chin. However have found a rare mining company on aim where only 20% of the free float is in private hands and they have just done the ingest deal ever.Go onto URU and top thread follow the link to the CEO telling you what they are about do.Well with a 2/3k punt you will not be disappointed!

I received the following response from HYD on a question I asked about the legal action.

"The legal case to which you refer relates to a customer dispute dating back to 2010/2011.  Hydro made an enquiry to establish whether the dispute would be covered by insurance.  The answer was that it would not be, and the insurance company moved to protect their position by filing a purely technical legal case to make the point.  This is not a contested issue between Hydro and it's insurer.  The underlying customer dispute is being defended and our position covered with what we believe to be a necessary level of provision.  There is no material impact on the 2012 results and hence no specific mention."

In the circumstances - public finances screwed, etc - this is a good set of results really. However, the poor circumstances are likely to continue and can't see increase in share price for some time. Just hope they keep weathering the storm - no pun intended - as its a company I want to see do well one day, even if I am not invested.

Pug, sorry, I don't have any more info about the court case.

This from today's RNS sums things up I'm afraid. HYD will remain on my watchlist given its potential, but I can't see the share price going anywhere (except perhaps down) for a while now given this outlook unless a bidder comes in:

"Consequently our view is that revenue and profitability in 2013 will be materially lower than 2012 levels. In addition the anticipated timing of revenues on contracts is expected, as in previous periods, to weight results for the year significantly to the second-half."

Do not like this " Early income recognition on the Bonnybrook contract helped the division grow revenues," Counting chiockens etc::

Cannot see any mention of litigation pending in the accounts which I would have expected if the Rivaldo post 2635 was significant BUT the omission is a worry.

Rivaldo:_ Can you give any more information on the case you have found and confirm that it applies to this company ?

the anteater:- The Board are calling revenue lower - Teading the sacred entrails indicates to me that the are very uncertain of forward rvenue levels - Revenue will (imo) be very much subject to new contract wins.

(all imo dyor etc - I am on the side for now)

Current forecasts for Hydro revenues are for them to fall roughly 10% to £31m (?) in 2013 yet the current order book is down 40% to £11.6m! Does this mean there will be more profit downgrades?

Having read the case notes (well found) I cannot see any mention of the amount sought as damages - Have you eeen or have access to the statement of claim ?

Rivaldo I'm sure that the board are more than confident that they will deliver the end results. Hydro is not for sale as the Japanese would snap it up and the BOD know they can sell it to them at any time. We will indeed see our 50p before this years end I'm confident that all is underway IMO.

Agreed. Broker forecasts are now 8.08p for this year (down from 11.84p EPS for 2012).

Which would imply a share price somewhere between 75p-90p is about right until HYD can signal that business is improving and it's not ex-growth any more. The divi yield will help, but I suppose that's at risk if things don't improve.

It's a real shame, as HYD is a great British business that has the makings of a global winner, but something always seems to go wrong.

There's always an outside chance that a bid might materialise, but there's no point in buying back in solely on such a punt.

Its clear that HYD rely very heavily on public spending budgets - contracts from local authorities and utilities. In these austerity days, this kind of spending is always cut back. Short term thinking prevails. HYD is a well run company with great products, which are badly needed. One day it must surely come good as their solutions for water management will become absolutely essential. For the short term, I would expect further drift in the share price perhaps back to 90p.
I would get interested again if it ever dipped into the 80s.

I bought more after the fall on Weds am. I know that the stock will not be covered by many analysts, but there will be much smarter people than myself so: how come the shock over the spend by the water utilities. I was blind to it, but why were smarter people and why as the price been flat for months before the announcement?

Today's profit warning:
Difficult to know whether to sell given that, as Jim Slater put it,: "Proft warnings are rarely one-offs". However if another Thames Watre-size project were to come up...?

We are also seeing steady progress from our growth initiatives within the individual business units. In particular, we are achieving encouraging growth in the US Stormwater business as a result of our developing relationship with the new distribution partner, and are building on our success in the US Wastewater business with new product introductions, including the GritCup and SpiraSnail. UK Stormwater has updated its core product range through the launch of the Hydro-Brake Optimum, but poor demand from the construction sector means that business remains flat within this business unit.

The growth anticipated across the Group will not, however, make up for the successful conclusion of the Thames Water projects, giving rise to our view that revenue and profitability in 2013 will be materially lower than 2012 levels. In addition a number of orders received in the second half of 2012 are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2013, so that the year will again be significantly second half weighted.

Hydro will be announcing Final Results for the year ended 31 December 2012 on Tuesday 19 March 2013 and has today issued an announcement on forthcoming management changes.

NHB:> Been on my watch list since 27/9/01 re price fallto 21/23p - Subject to when you bought in 2001 I can see why you continue to hold - Good yield based on your cost price and a good niche marketmbut as you say aroller coaster - Very much a matter of timing as very illiquid if one wants to get out in volume.

They are insisting that results and profit will be heavily weighted towards H2. They are always cautious in their comments in results so wouldn't accuse them of trying to paint an optimistic picture.

Personally, I'm ready to give them the benefit of the doubt but caveat emptor! I've been in these since 2001 (!) so I've ridden this roller coaster for a long time now.

Cheers

Very dissapointing results - Profits almost wiped out -

Margin decreased from 8.4% to 2.8%
and eps from 4.16p to 1.53p.

The board may waffle on about product mix but (imo) these boys have been very busy but have gove fast bacwards in terms of profit.

Why do I get the idea that maybe they are putting contracts and revenue before before profitability?

Could it be that they are spreading the team too thin on the ground?

Could it be that they would be more profitable if they concentrated on winning and executing projects which had a lower content of didtributed products?

Any other thoughts ?
