Yep market seems to like it. Not read it all yet so guess some positives outweighing the slight miss.

Thought they previously said pbt in the range £330m to £365m, so just below the lower forecast.

Do they clarify how much money their business in France is losing atm?.

I notice a new head of international business appointed.

These have been on my watch list for a while as a quality company. If pbt is say £340m that's an eps of 45p, broker consensus prior to today was 49p (I assume that's at mid point of their pbt range?). Puts it on a PE of 14x, which IMO seems at the lower end of its historical rating. Like most though they are struggling at the moment.I too recently had a new kitchen, I also went for Wren and the fitter didn't have a very good word for Howdens, not the product but how the business operates - yes anecdotal. Recall Phil Oakley did an article in March on HWDN, was a while back but may be useful:Https://knowledge.sharescope.co.uk/phil-oakley/

I'm not unhappy - well positioned to take off once the interest rate environment improves. Which it will.

There really is no shortage of folks linking ANY bad news to Brexit.

So, Porsche1945, how are things in Europe? Are they faring better in Germany, often referred to as the sick man of Europe these days? How about France?

I agree with you on the poor market valuations, not just the FTSE-100 but also the FTSE-250. Some US companies aren't having an easy time over the past five years either.

There's a flight of money out of stocks and into bonds/cash/fixed interests given the high interest rates. That's the main reason (in my view) for the decline in SP's for many UK companies.

I see it as an opportunity to buy in for decent high yield payers such as PHNX, LGEN and even the likes of BATS who pay quarterly dividends.

Looking eastwards is where the growth lies. And precisely because of Brexit we've joined the Trans Pacific Partnership. That's the one that Germany, Italy etc aren't able to join.

And October is the most important month for Howdens by a distance. That said, Travis has been a lame duck for a long time and a warning here could be a false steer.

Hello all. First look at HWDN this morning.

My atention was drawn here by an article from Richard Beddard of Interactive Investor. I have a ii SIPP and hence receive their emails. Richard (holds HWDN) places Howdens at number two in his list of 40 stocks in his 'decision engine'.

So, I thought I'd have a look.

I know of the company - 18 months ago I had a Wren kitchen fitted although briefly looked at Howdens with a view to pointing our builders in that direction. Wren won.

This link should take you to the Richard Beddard article:

Back in here again after a good previous experience.Have had a Howdens kitchen fitted at the start of the year, very pleased with the style, solid unit construction and flooring. Only suggestion, would be to include some higher spec white goods on their website.Seem busy and well managed.

Berenburg shares your view - from Citywire this morning

Berenberg tips Howden

Kitchen supplier Howden Joinery (HWDN) can grow ‘substantially’ from here, making it a ‘medium-term winner’, says Berenberg.

Analyst Robert Chantry retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of 870p on the stock, which rose 1%, or 6.6p, to 703.4p at the end of last week.

Following a meeting with the chief financial officer of the group, Chantry said he made no changes to his numbers but noted the ‘growth initiative and the international opportunity’ the company was pursuing this year.

‘Overall, we expect Howden to outperform a tough UK repair, maintenance and improvement market through full-year 2023 and, on a multi-year view, we think newly opened and refurbished depots alongside pricing power and the broader market position should help the business grow substantially from current levels, supported by strong cash generation and balance sheet,’ he said.

‘Howden currently trades on 11.1 times full-year 2024 embedded value/ebit and 13.3 times price/earnings.̵7;

Surprised no one in this. Drew to my attention by a comment in a Sharescope article. Has such a good track record on ROCE and Margin.

Everything looking that panic is over from the doom in early 2023 and when this is common knowledge it will take off imo - I hope.

Fair point. My concern is the possible decline in house building.
