A thought – In my local City Centre the Game shop closed, while the HMV store remained opened.

I was wondering, just wondering if OpCapita knew what was going to happen to HMV, so while Game in administration was able to close my local Game store for virtually nothing, to then buy the HMV store for virtually nothing when HMV went bust. Knowing they would get a good deal on the lease as Game, Clinton Cards and Jessops have left the high street and the landlords wouldn't like to see yet another one of their premises empty.

Game, which was bought out of administration itself last April, has approached HMV administrators Deloitte with an interest in buying a number of shops in order to boost its estate.

Game is owned by OpCapita, the group which owned electricals retail chain Comet when it went under before Christmas.

It is reported that OpCapita may have made has much as £50mln from the collapse of Comet, therefore has a few bob to buy the HMV stores being reported.

Hi guys,

Is there a case that we can get at some point some money back, or the shares will be alive again?

ihavenoclue - Didn't intend to look in here again but glad I did because it informed me who had started the £10 million profit this year guff before the Fox and the Wolf ran with it and Trev was reaffirming it to the Guardian when the trading statement was released in September 2012. The thing is though that one of the directors here is married to the Chairman of the FSA.

After the time UK retail has had of late, I think you'll find that some sections of the media might be about to blow the lid open on this one Not likely to be Trinity Mirror group though

And for God's sake can we cut the rubbish out about blaming other people for the trades/hold decisions we make. This share was tipped heavily three years ago to the rbs investors on lse and on the hmv bb by a poster called rblackie. The share also received a string of strong buy recommendations from a poster called shri9 on iii and his accomplice Lucinda on lse. At the end of the day though none of these posters actually pressed the buy button for anybody though they did scarper from the bbs without indicating whether they were still holding or had sold. In the case of shri9, he indicated that he had a very large holding in hmv but he disappeared from the bb on iii without trace in March last year and guess what he did the same before that with yell/hibu - another basket case.

LOL you folk are so transparent because I noticed the little hmv pumper dumper groups had all become devout followers of shri9 on the sclp bb at the start of last year. And he had ego issues lol.

And that's my last post on this forum folks. Can't say it's been a pleasure but enlightening none the less Seek the truth.

But the failure of Game in March with the closure of 300 or so stores and the closure of its flagship Oxford Street store in September along with the Hammersmith Apollo disposal monies probably did assist hmv to keep going as long as it did.

I don't claim to be an investment genius but you're not one either. The one thing montyhedge said on here that was right is that you were sitting on the fence here and didn't declare any position short or long. You post on three maybe more websites and I have seen no evidence on any of them that you have selected any stocks that have gone well for you. Before and since selling hmv, I have gone into a few stocks which have done rather nicely. Check it out on lse.

You were saying that hmv would go bust before July 2011, January 2012 and numerous other dates. The chances are that you would eventually have selected the right date. It didn't go bust though till 2013. I didn't think it would whilst it still had waterstones and then the Live venues to dispose of and the suppliers probably weighed that up and decided to back them fully at the start of last year. I took the right decision for ME here to reach breakeven and eventual profit with these shares as I made up a lot of lost ground during the numerous double digit percentage rises - remember it went up 50% in 24 hours in June 2011. I came home late on the afternoon of Friday 20th January 2012 to find the shares up over 200% and I sold the majority I had then and another smaller batch on the Monday. You might say that it was silly of me to buy other tranches thereafter but they weren't an investment and I traded them on spikes which hmv had in February, March, May, June, Ausust, September, October and December last year. After reading the rns in December with the interim results, I decided not to buy any more hmv shares unless and until there was some good news in the way of a positive Christmas trading statement or some fresh supplier initiatives or banking agreements.

Don't come on here preaching to me. As I said to you on lse everybody and their granny knew that hmv and the other retailers you have posted about were in serious trouble in their final weeks. You showed no particular expertise in predicting the outcome that many people in the country had foreseen. The only skill you have demonstrated is that you would make a good undertaker chasing an ambulance with its sirens on. I still laugh at how late you arrived on the Mouchel bb on lse. Now please ply your tacky trade without addressing any further posts to me.

I bought into HMV a few weeks ago and only in a small way but after reading threads on ADVFN,III and LSE I found that any factual information whether positive or negative gets lost or swamped by pointless posts.

Not sure what will happen with HMV but I will update this thread with company news and news in the media as I believe this is a very interesting time for the company.

Therefore I would hope the day traders will continue using their normal threads while I try and keep this thread factual with obviously a positive slant! lol

By a 'positive slant' I mean general outlook while this company is trying to basically change itself to remain competitive in a sector that is rapidly evolving. If they fail they fail but I'm prepared to give them a bit of my money and time.........so,lets see what happens."

Ironic.........

GAME perhaps buying a few HMV stores.....

....and according to nolens volens, aka olive/elvis, the failure of GAME was going to assist HMV.

An investment genius, thats for sure.

Game, the retailer bought out of administration last year by turnaround investor OpCapita, is reported to have expressed an interest buying up to 45 HMV stores.

HMV is understood to have between 40 and 45 stores in locations where Game is not present.

Game's approach is said to be one of about 50 expressions of interest, the report added.

Previous news reports confirmed those parties include Leeds-based turnaround specialist Endless, Jon Moulton's Better Capital, private equity firm Oakley Capital and Hilco, which owns HMV Canada and has relationships with HMV's suppliers.

Shoppers who bought HMV gift cards from Asda and Tesco can exchange them at face value for the supermarkets' own gift cards.

Tesco adds that as long as your HMV gift card is still in date, even if it's part-used, it will exchange whatever value is left on the card until the end of January, and there's no limit on the value that can be exchanged. This can be done at any Tesco store.

Asda customers have until 30 January to redeem HMV cards.

American Express had an offer pre Xmas offering 20% discount if you bought HMV Vouchers via a Charge Card (no legal cover on Charge Cards).

Good on American Express to refund any losses to anyone who took up this offer.

I disagree. The Administrator will love it if 2m people lodge claims.

Reason - It will make more work and more work is more money for the Administrator.
