mf, apols, only just realised you posted after me. Just been checking the chart from time to time, rather than posts. All seems to be going ok.

I think you did the right thing selling, then buying back. I did the same thing earlier this summer, [with other holdings] took profits before going on holiday, then buying back again after. All the best.

Good luck bamboo, I bought my first tranche at 518 last year, sold it (stupidly) at 540 and bought back in at 550 and then again at 665. Let's see what the future brings, but Neil Hermon is an excellent fund manager so fingers crossed.

Unconfirmed Descending Triangle [but confirmation b/o looks imminent] T=716. Average b/o at 64% of Triangle length. Stongest b/o at around 80-84% of triangle length. Let's see how this one performs...

I bought some more on Friday at 665p. Discount has widened a little again, happy to buy when it hits 13%.

I suspect now might be a good time to sell and the discount may widen again and the stellar run of housebuilders come to an end, but I've got a fair slug in cash at the moment and am happy to hold HSL until something material changes. My long term investment goals are to make 8-10% pa with as few nasty surprises as possible and so HSL fits into the buy and hold (potentially for decades) category for me.

mf, thank you. I'll work on my award acceptance speech. :)

So what now? Will you sell?

Perhaps I should have another look at the chart.

edit, From a chart pattern perspective, this is a HOLD. A short consolidation phase with a flag or pennant leads to an unconfirmed target of approx 720, depending on precise time and direction of b/o.

bamboo - you win this week's chart guru prize!
this has proved to be one of my better investments - up 30% in 7 months and a quality, long term investment to boot.

Nice to see the discount to NAV closing - neil hermon is a top manager, not sure why these always are discounted

RIIC is worth a look too -on a 27% discount to NAV and higher growth over 5 years (2nd best in small co's I.T.sector)

It move sharply higher today due to the overweight position in housebuilders. This really is a cracking investment for anyone with a long term perspective. 15%pa for a decade, top quartile performance over almost any time period you can choose, in the last money observer down as having grown its dividend at a faster rate than any other investment trust over the last decade, and you can buy at a big discount still. yet its just me and dave invested in it!

Nice to break the £7 mark. The discount here continues to be silly for such a quality fund.

fully agree - hsl is a very good performer and when you look at how discounts have narrowed on the likes of Witan and FRCL over the past few years there is no reason for any half decent IT to be trading at more than a nominal discount. this is a great opportunity for both investors and Henderson to take advantage.

I've bought a few this morning. This is at a silly discount for such a good long term performer. 15%pa growth for 10 years is a fantastic record. To buy at 13% discount is a bargain.
