First Interim Dividend



The directors have declared a first interim dividend of 4.70p (four point seven zero pence) per ordinary share in respect of the year ending 31 August 2015. The dividend will be paid on 27 February 2015 to shareholders on the register (the record date) on 6 February 2015. The shares will be quoted ex-dividend on 5 February 2015.

I tend to share your slight concern but, to be fair to HFEL, the Asian index it chooses as a benchmark had nearly 36% in financials at the start of the year. Financials tend to have a higher beta than the market generally so it is possible, given strong rises in emerging markets this year, that the weighting in the index for financials has increased organically and similar organic growth might have occurred for HFEL. More of a question is how financials got down to only 15% last year but, then, I don't expect HFEL to just slavishly follow an index. I expect them to manage investments to produce a high yield and to achieve respectable growth in that yield. The track record has been good so I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt. I think it is worth keeping an eye on, though. Thanks for drawing it to our attention.

Incidentally, I did a search on the Henderson website for HFEL and turned up a number of links that could be of interest. I haven't had time to have a good look but probably will.

The July factsheet showed that more that 44% of assets now invested in financial stocks. Anybody else getting concerned that there is too much sector concentration here especially with the bubble in the Chinese property market?

Annual report (31st August 2013) shows only 15% of portfolio held in financial stocks so significant change appears to have taken place
