Anyone know the reason for the recent sharp dip?

Southampton is progressing, slowly but that's the norm for planning,

There should be a lot of news this year what with the Avonmouth funding, Rothes going live, Southampton and suggestions of new sites.

So perhaps the share price will get a boost once the markets look our way.

And who know's we may be Qatar's list,

Presumably the recent bad news for UK Coal will have a positive impact upon our projects, making them a more essential part of the energy self-sufficiency mix.

Avonmouth is to start work from the placing cash.

Southampton, I'm sure will get the go ahead from the Government, as it's their decision not the local council.

And with other sites being considered.

"Project Portfolio

The Company is currently in discussions with a number of UK site owners regarding future sites for the development of biomass projects. The intention is to secure sites that will enable the commencement of development of at least a further 200M We of capacity within the next two years. The Company intends to avoid making significant cost commitments to new sites until the Avonmouth project is financed and some form of development fee generated. The Directors have reviewed the recoverability of all projects and made adjustments to carrying values where necessary."

So this looks likely to be a busy year for Helius with quiet a few RNS's on the developement of the business. Which will be nice after the lack of info last year.

Given the recent media reports on reducing energy self-sufficiency in the UK, projects such as ours will be nailed on - NIMBY's will swept aside as commonsense prevails

Yep, we're still in the delicate fledgling stage where it's a battle to keep head above water. That said, it's all worthwhile and has a lot of merit and support because of the greenness of the energy.
I recently saw a documentary film Chasing Ice, which I'd thoroughly recommend, that paints a worrying picture of global warming and the increasing evidence of the CO2 factor being largely responsible. Afterwards, a professor from Cambridge Climate Change Study Centre spoke and fielded questions from the audience - he spoke with great clarity about the situation.

The one thing in todays news that does annoy me is that the Placing price clearly suggests information leaked to the Mkt over recent days that would explain the share price drift. The FSA need to sort this problem out - it's so widespread.

Stallingborough is a puzzle, in Sep12 RWE and Helius reverted to the orginal contract and I think that's why they had to write it off in the accounts, and yet RWE applied for planning permission last year but as to what thats means is not known. So I think Helius don't know what RWE are up to, and me.

The banks have mucked around for ages hence the need for cash but the good news the talks are still in progress with the banks and equity investors.

Southampton is still progressing.

And I see there's mention of new plants.

So to sum up,
Stallingborough don't know??
Avonmouth should be settled (funding wise) 2013 H1 - touch wood.
Southampton is still in progress
Rothes is soon due to raise cash for us
And other sites have been earmarked.

Slow but sure'ish.

Stallingborough is a write-off and they are fumbling around for cash. At least they have Rothes though.

No news, that's the problem.

Results are due this month but more importantly we need news on the Avonmouth funding, Southampton planning and need cash from going live in Rothes.

I believe in the management and the big investors, so we can only hope for good news.

The current share price is covered by Rothes income IMHO.

We're in the hands of the banks and the government - Oh dear!

Still waiting on Avonmouth funding news but H1 2013 when the Rothes site is due to go live and hence cash coming in. So this should receive some interest and press comments.

Can't see the 18p level broken until the Avonmouth funding is agreed but the MM's have allowed the price to rise so perhaps they know it's due soon.

qvg,

I think this web site answers your worries about sustainably-sourced biomass

qvg,

I believe the fuel supply contracts are part of the due diligence performed by the banks as part of the loans preformed prior to the loans released. Hopefully the Avonmouth funds will be completed soon, I did read the other day that 9 banks are interested (uncomfirmed) in the deal and I believe the funds have been slowed by the government whilst they have been sorted them out but the recent comments seem they are firmly behind biomass.

As for wood supplies you will find that Angus McDonald owns 1,500 hectares of sitka spruce and also runs SWR which is a recycling business which is another source of waste wood used by biomass plants.

Your question about wood investments I'd investigate owning a forest,or part of one, as I believe there are tax benefits of those investments, but biomass doesn't just run on wood there are many plants can be used as biomass fuels,

There are huge amounts of resources of biomass around and recently I've had tree surgeons around to remove some trees and speaking to them they chip all the wood and remove it and they say they can't get rid of it so they give it away to allotments for mulching purposes otherwise they have to pay to dump it. And it you take Angus's quote that tree's grow 4% a year there must be a huge amount of the material just in the UK going to waste.

Thanks for that. The aspect that has always concerned me is sustainability.
The link you gave takes me to:

Which has the following:

"Tough criteria designed to ensure that the biomass used in UK power stations is sustainable have been set out. These include a requirement for wood fuel to come from sustainably managed forests, and a proposal to set a clear pathway to reduce the carbon intensity of biomass generation."

Do we know if Helius meet the criteria? More generally, how can one invest in wood supplies which meet the criteria? seems to be a big opportunity there.

Less red tape for developers and more interest shown by the government that we must have more power generation double quick. Biomass can put up the power stations very quickly particularly now the planning red tape is being eased. With power cuts by 2015-2016 the stations need to be started soon to hit that 2015-6 target.

We're getting a few buy's since the RNS. I'd think the funding announcement is a few months away hence the £1m loan. But one day there will be a RNS and then the serious buyers will appear.

fidra,

"Anyone got a handle on the value going forward for this company once it is up and running in Rothes, and Avonmouth gets underway?"

Somewhere between 50p-75p once Avonmouth is funded, the key is that once they have raised the capital the markets will become interested in Helius. So far it's mainly brought by loyal shareholders stated in the Scotsman's article; people likely to stay in for the long term and they account for circa 50% of the shares already so as of today there's only £10m floating shares to play with.

"Why is Southampton more positive, I thought it had planning turned down."

Southampton has received local objections but the planning is controlled by the central government and they want/need Biomass and also a little while ago Helius brought in Mr Rickett which in my view is to smooth the governmental issues.

"I am interested in this business and do the long term holders here think this could be bought out at a later date, seeing as this is what Mr McD appears to do with his creations. Is there a likely exit at 10 to 20 times todays price?"

I know there are another plants in the pipeline and I'd say in 5 – 10 years time Helius could be large and picked up by one of the big operators. The country needs clean energy and biomass plants are quick to build and fill in the lacking's of wind and solar which either generate or sit there doing nothing whilst biomass runs 24hr 7 days a week. Also money starts coming in next year from Rothes so profits will appear and I'd say the big investors will want to see dividends for their tied up money.
