15/11/2010 22:02 | I'm not interested in accepting a bid unless it's at a substantial premium. Management here are very good, and i would be happy to hold for a decade or more with dividend increasing by 10% per annum. They deserve their independence imho. | topvest
15/11/2010 08:23 | Although HDU has done so well over the last 35 years and enjoy their independence it would be hard for institutions to resist a price of 350 - 360p - a premium of 50% over NAV. AO | a0148009
19/10/2010 00:30 | That bid's for 1.1x projected NTAV. This company has traditionally been valued at > 1.1x NTAV.... I'd do the deal for £3.50. | little beaker
18/10/2010 20:04 | I hold Beazley and Hardy. Hardy are a class outfit and I would prefer them to stay independent. I'd like to hold Hardy for 10 years+ and see how they do, rather than to see an opportunistic buyer. Hardy have been unlucky on two fronts; general sentiment and a number of one-off adverse events. They have delivered on their business plan to date and deserve shareholders to be supportive unless a killer bid comes in, which this isn't. | topvest
18/10/2010 17:33 | I Agrre with you bench, therefore took the chance to realise a 21% profit, in two months.....the problem now is where to go next. Good luck to all that hold, you might well be right and Hardy might get a better bid. But my money is now in the bank. PSD | inntolife
18/10/2010 14:40 | BEWARE there have been more failed courtships and rebuffed advances in the Lloyds U/W syndicates than any other sector. Hardy tried to buy Atrium several years ago having bought a 20% stake at a depressed price .... and many companies have tried to woo Chaucer and failed . So do not expect an agreed deal between Beaz and Hardy . Lloyds is still an exclusive club with big ego's at stake so it is difficult to do deals unless the key players want an exit.. ie BRIT.... where the cash buyer is from outside the club , so leaving all the key underwriters in place. Imagine a golf or cricket club where all the members know each other and one senior member has made advances to another members wife and then it becomes public. Still Hardy now selling at moer justifiable level so thansk Beazley ........ STAY PUT. | bench2
18/10/2010 08:47 | Things are improving in the City! It took fully 5 days for the Beazley offer (made on 6 Oct) to produce widespread insider dealing, which looks to have begun in earnest on 11 Oct. | ursus
18/10/2010 08:36 | AO thanks for the input. I have noticed several t/o's in recent years where when unsuccessful the target Co's share price suffered noticeably. Do you think the same will happen here or do you think others in the sector will come out to play and put in counter offers to stop Beazley getting too large a slice of the Underwriting pie? Hydrus I am inclined to hold for the time being. I also know another former Lloyds Name who set great store in Hardy's professionalism and integrity which kept them producing realistic results when many other syndicates were posting near catastrophic ones and near bankrupting "names" at the same time Even if there is no further "action" this does alert the market to the fact that the current price, or at least last weeks price, was well below the true value of the business. | baht
18/10/2010 08:03 | Holding on - Hardy is a top class underwriting agency. I was an underwriting name for 20 years on Hardy and they always made a profit even in the bad times. They have a first class reputation throughout Lloyds and top lines of business I would expect a better price - it is a real prize. AO | a0148009
18/10/2010 07:29 | Good news this AM, so what are you all doing - holding or selling up?! | hydrus
08/10/2010 08:57 | Hi I've started a new BB for HDU because I wanted to be able to see the daily charts. Please add any news, comments (good or bad), etc when you have a mo. Hopefully we can get a little more information, interest, and debate going. | baht
08/10/2010 08:42 | Welcome to all. I've started this new thread to be able to see the daily charts. The previous main ADVFN BB for HDU was created about 8 years ago and has attracted only 51 posts so I hope not too many important bits of information have been left behind. The old BB can be found at I hope we get a little more input here so please post any thoughts or information you come across. | baht
06/10/2010 15:05 | some big buys juct went through - wonder if these could be Director buys?? | hydrus
04/10/2010 13:58 | Just been looking at this and thinking the same. Also some of the Industry big claims are now on the way out of the accounts BP etc. or at least not getting any worse. Recovery could be just around the corner. | baht
26/9/2010 16:31 | And poor old Ashley dead? sniff, a loss. - this looks worth returning to, and a bit of diversity from miners. H. | hectorp

24/8/2010 23:10 | Looking pretty good value at the moment! This is the sort of stock I like, 6% dividend yield with plenty of scope for capital gains. | chillwill
14/8/2010 06:34 | Agreed - tipped in shares magazine this week. All looking positive here with a nice fat juicy dividend also included. | hydrus
12/8/2010 18:36 | Right time to buy now with the big director dealings and the share price increase today? | baz147
05/8/2010 08:00 | A poor H1 as flagged, but that's insurance. Need a steady H2 given their growth ambitions. A good company though that should do very well over the medium term. | topvest
05/8/2010 07:47 | Results ok, but the broker forecast for 24p eps this year looks a bit far away unless they have a really good 6 months. Still, trading at a discount to net tangible asset value so a good value play and stable business with an almost 6% dividend yield. | chillwill
24/5/2010 07:32 | Yep very attractive. I bought two tranches this morning at 231p and 234p. Looks like a great medium term hold to me. Very steady, I notice it didn't move down that much during the credit crunch so this is a nice balance to my portfolio which has perhaps been on the risky side up until now! | hydrus
23/5/2010 16:29 | Yes, HDU is a very good company. 6% YIELD is quite compelling. | topvest |
