I agree penpoint. There is absolutely no point in the company staying independent because it will be paying down debt for ever and a day.Goal is basically a property company with a high return which means that if it is to expand it needs a high level of capital investment.Because the returns are high and capable of being expanded both in theUK and theUSa i believe that the Canadians will see fit to offer a sufficiently high price that the directors wll find worthy of recommending

I just managed to buy 8000 shares at 123p. At that price this looks - I really hesitate to use this expression - a no-brainer. On historic and forecast earnings alone they are worth IMO more than this. With a T/O in the offing on top, it was just too hard to resist.

Here's hoping I''m right.....

If the following scenario occurs then it won't be a surprise. Ontario put in a bid of about 130p which is rejected and they walk away. Shortly afterwards a transatlantic PE firm miraculously appears to rescue the situation with a bid of about 140p and everyone is filled with relief and the offer is accepted.

You only have to look at the DTK thread that has appeared again recently to see what happens when these offers are accepted.

These were up to 118p a couple of weeks ago so there is hardly a premium at all at this level.

I think powerleague were bought in the middle of the downturn. Most of the centres are smaller, generated half the op margin than goals and are generally in not as good locations. On that basis the price for the two businesses cannot be compared and I think the directors will stress that point

not sure I agree with below comment

Shares in Goals Soccer Centres (GOAL) soared by 17.5p to 125p after it confirmed that it is in discussions with Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan for a potential takeover bid. Based on the EV/EBITA multiple of 7.5 times that was paid for its peer Powerleague in 2009, broker N+1 Brewin said this would equate to an offer price of 130p. The broker noted the attractiveness of the new low cost business model and believes investors would prefer to accept the prospective offer than wait for the business to recover.

This company is producing quality EBITDA of circa £12m and should therefore attract a bid of some £120m i.e. about 250p per share. The directors are a canny Scottish bunch and will i should imagine be holding out for a very high price.

I can't see it being less than 10X this year's earnings which are set to be nearly 14p...... but taking into account growth and around 150p looks like the bottom of the range.... will be interesting to see how it pans out..

Anything below 170 should not be considered. This business clearly has long term value if it takes a couple of years to reduce debt then it would have a much higher valuation. With the new build concept it can reduce debt and continue growing. It makes sense for the canadian pension fund to buy it as they can expand it much faster in the Uk and abroad and get high rate rate of return on a long term basis in a easy to run predictable business which is perfect for them. It does not get safer than football when predicting what people will be doing in 50 years time

I expect a strong rise medium term as people soak up the results on this. The focus on debt reduction should throw 10m into equity value this year alone imo.

Also very much like the use of time to evaluate the cheaper build model. This is a simple, defensible high-margin business with a high diversity of cashflow - and the ten years of pipeline sites will help too, along with reduced debt interest by the end of this year.

Encouraged by US breakeven/progress - huge market.

Nice and quiet here, the way I like it, and share price skirting around an all time low. Director buys today.

For the past two days I have had an alert coming up in my email which says GOAL.

For someone who follows Nottingham Forest this is highly unusual and for someone who follows Goals even more unusual.

Lets hope both can improve.

Well these have fallen about 10 percent since the first talk of snow but I'm sure a few days of snow in the muddle of winter will not reduce revenue by 10 percent. It always amazes me how markets (people) don't factor in the predictable.

Looks like they are turning their strong cashflow towards bringing down debt this year. No bad thing in current climate. They have opened a lot of sites in pst year or so and so should still see growth coming through as debt goes down - a nice mix!
