Looks like sub-100 on the cards. The share price reduction seems way overdone - if it's only a downturn in sales that is driving it. Are there funding problems or anything else causing this?

i have a vending machine company and by and large snacks sell whatever. Its the big ticket items that go first, holidays , cars. Theonly problem is whena business shuts down and your machine is inside

The wonder of Woolies, I wonder how much exposure GLI have to the Woolworths situation. I would imagine a lot of Woolworths panned confectionery comes from the Blackburn plant! Other than that I have always thought confectionery was fairly recession proof, people stay in with a sweet treet to save money rather than indulging in more expensive pastimes. I seem to remember Cadbury doing well during the recession of the early 90's. I was once told when I worked in the industry that people who live in poorer areas and have lower incomes tend to consume more snacks and sweets.

Wouldn't have thought snacks were essential items in the weeks' shopping trolley but there's a mention in today's FT's Small Talk column where it's seen as having a well covered divi and strong balance sheet.

Consistent performer but debt build up a worry and last deal was pricey. There is a decent note on Investors Champion (www.investorschampion.com) but anyone know how snack businesses perform in a recession?

Sitting tight, and awaiting the agm on 7 Nov - details announced today:

"The fifth Annual General Meeting of the company will be held at The Hovels,
Harewood Estate, Harewood, Leeds, LS17 9LF at 2.30pm on 7 November 2007."

"The Hovels" ?!?!?! - is that for real or has some tea boy doctored the RNS

I wrote on 3 Sep:

"Results next Monday (10 Sep) - I'm hoping to see continued strong cash flow and further reduction in net debt."

My hopes weren't entirely met:

The net cash inflow from operating activities during 2007 was £7.4m (2006: £7.7m), although as was pointed out in the results "This reflects a strong conversion of profits to cash over a two year period of 100%."

Meanwhile net debt at 30 June 2007 was £12.9m (2006: £12.1m), and has risen further following the acquisition of Dormen announced on 7 Sep to a hefty £21.0m. Gearing has gone from less than 60% to close to 90%.

I'm considering my position - not a fan of high levels of debt generally, but GLI's cash flow is attractive.

The only thing I can think of is that cereal prices have increased dramatically recently, so maybe their production costs have increased for the things like cereal bars?

I'm concerned about the steady drop leading up to results - I expected the reverse. Any hint of bad news anyone is aware of?

He might be able to get GLI to cherry-pick any bits of the business that might fit, or put them on to suppliers who now have surplus capacity.

Note the announcement today. This company shares a non exec with Interlink foods which was a great story for a while and then the profit warnings started to kick in eventually leading to administration. That fact makes me nervous. I suppose at best he was just unlucky to be involved.....
