Miner Anglo American has returned to profitability after taking measures to strengthen its balance sheet last year.

Its profit before tax for 2016 was $2.6bn following a loss of $5.4bn in the previous year.

The FTSE-listed firm also said it had reduced its net debt by 34%, and that it would resume dividend payments by the end of 2017.

In late 2015 the firm announced it would suspend dividends after a global slump in commodity prices. This led it to begin a major restructuring programme, although prices of raw materials have since rebounded.

Anglo-Dutch mining giant BHP Billiton made $3.24bn (£2.6bn) in underlying profit for the half year ended December 31.

That's a near eightfold increase compared to the same period in the previous year, when it earned $412m.

Renewed demand from China late last year led to an unexpected surge in commodity prices, which translated into a massive sales boost for global miners.

BHP Billiton is one of the world's largest producers of major commodities including iron ore, copper and uranium. And it also has substantial operations in the energy industry, including shale oil and gas.

Kaz and Glen not expensive at all... I think you need to dig a bit deeper with your research... kaz has loads more to go... I reckon 800 be year end and Glen 350-400.However, markets need to correct soon as such we could see shares going lower but I think they will be bought and prices will regain in due course

I don't have a position here or the other miners like Vedanta, Polymetal, Kaz, Evraz, reason being I'm reluctant to due them being rather expensive and looking at the techs on the weekly, very over bought, they will all come crashing down at some point.

I do however hold Fres and Hoc which I'm banking on giving me a good return this year when the bleak reality of the world economy hits.

Thanks..HSBC analyst David Pleming said the "well-flagged" purchases represented "another good deal" for the company. In particular, Pleming praised the value-add that the deal brings to Glencore as well as the increased exposure to copper and cobalt in the DRC.As a result, the analyst raised his target price for the stock to 435p – which suggests a possible upside of almost a third – while repeating his buy recommendation.

Thank you Losses, so is the information contained in above link wrong?

But yes I always go by official news wires but nothing wrong with data on one page and then one can go and check it out for themselves.

Boys & Girls the best place to get the dividend data is from the companies website... never rely on other sites who can't always keep up with the correct information..Talking from 20 years experience.
