Drilling permit in the GPC block. HMPH!!!!

Drilling permit for wellbore 6609/10-2 in production licence 483 S
24.7.2009

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Det norske oljeselskap ASA a drilling permit for wellbore 6609/10-2, cf. Section 8 of the Resource Management Regulations.

Wellbore 6609/10-2 will be drilled from the Songa Delta drilling facility at position 66°02`29" N and 09°03´06" E.

The drilling program for wellbore 6609/10-2 relates to the drilling of a wildcat well in production licence 483 S. Det norske oljeselskap ASA is the operator, with an ownership interest of 40 per cent. The partners are Discover Petroleum AS (30 per cent) and Dana Petroleum Norway AS (30 per cent).

Well 6609/10-2 will be drilled about 45 km east of the Norne field in the Norwegian Sea. The production licence consists of parts of blocks 6508/3, 6608/12, 6609/10 and 6609/11. Production licence 483 S was awarded in APA 2007.

Wildcat well 6609/10-2 is the first well in production licence 483 S.

The drilling permit is conditional on the operator securing all other permits and consents required by other authorities before the drilling activity commences.

I noticed last week that the "Heaven & Hell" column in the Sunday Times still holds some shares in GPC.
Not sure how often it is updated, but would expect comment as he has held for a long time & has big losses.

He must like most of us have liked the blocks held.

i don't beleive that GPC could be bid for

their only assets are exploration licences in blocks where there is no drilling scheduled

who on earth would bid for them?

I agree barrywhit. My instincts are better these days than a few years ago if my current trading is anything to go buy (do you see what I did there). Though I've always had a good feeling about GPC, my timing and self-discipline was way off back then. I think over the next few months I'm likely to add to my holding but I don't think I need to hurry into it just yet.

How confident are people about GPC on this post? I bought way back to keep in the bottom draw and forgot about them. When I last looked they were under 10p (I bought at 142p effectively!!). Now there's a bit of action I'm tempted to buy some more in a vain and desperate attempt to bring the average down. I'm just trying to work out if its now the right time, or whether that's another mistake.

Dont think so, but something going on here. Obvious renewed affection in North Sea interest helps. But maybe GPC could be taken out at this price for their acreage. Cant see any other reasons aside from general rerating?

Has this been tipped anywhere, only quite a bit of buying going through, for GPC anyway........they have obviously got an overhang of stock as the offer has gone up but not the bid........

Activity around the GPC blocks.

During the period Valiant also notched up five exploration wells of which three were classed as successful.

This year Valiant said its priorities will be first oil from the Don area development, and among others, it will seek to complete the previously-announced acquisition of Nor Energy UK involving a further 10% stake in the Causeway field, and the buyout of Dana Petroleum's 50% equity in Northern North Sea blocks 211/8a, 211/13a, which contain the Banquo and Helena discoveries.

Valiant said it will also seek further acquisitions plus consolidation opportunities in an around its core areas - which it said are arising due to the current financial climate.

Within our partnerships, GPC don't have to bear the brunt of drilling costs.
