From today's RNS

"This week's Jaipur auction has witnessed the next step in the evolution of the Montepuez ruby deposit's deep-seated and positive impact on the global ruby market. Customer response in the Jaipur market, where this was the first ever offering of such a considerable volume of non-domestic rough ruby has been overwhelming, as can be seen in the excellent auction results.

The five auctions we have hosted so far this financial year, three of emeralds and two of rubies, have yielded aggregate revenues of USD 124.4 million, a superb performance by Gemfields with credit due to every member of our devoted and hard-working team worldwide.

The next Gemfields auction will be of predominantly higher quality ruby and corundum from Montepuez and is presently expected to take place before 30 June 2015."

from the LSE board - Ruby auction starts on Monday

Also good to see that this month's ruby auction in Jaipur will include "traded rough emerald" (i.e. not obtained directly from the Company's own mining operations)

Hardly surprising its been a wonderful run....and we've got the June auctions yet to come.

From your point of view, only natural to want your actions to seem justified.

Very impressive move up. Didn't expect this, but very happy.

Quite interesting that Faberge is perhaps the driver.

From today's very encouraging Market Update RNS

Fabergé
· Wholly owned Fabergé Ltd saw the value of sales orders agreed(e) during the quarter to 31 March 2015 increase by 64% when compared to the same period last year.

· Operating costs for the quarter remained consistent with the same period last year.
· The Fabergé Pearl Egg, the first egg created in the 'Imperial Class' since 1917 was unveiled at the Doha Jewellery & Watches Expo in Qatar in late February 2015 and was sold within hours of unveiling.

Ian Harebottle, CEO of Gemfields, commented:
"This quarter has once again delivered pleasing results for Gemfields. We have achieved considerable increases in production volumes at both the Kagem and Montepuez mining operations, underpinned by constant growth in market demand for these products as is evidenced by the ongoing successes achieved at our auctions, all of which validates our decision to expand the scale of the operations across our key sites.
These results are further supported by the overwhelmingly positive response Fabergé has received from so many sources for its newly unveiled product lines and which was once again evidenced by a healthy increase in the number and value of sales orders placed."

Also good to see that this month's ruby auction in Jaipur will include "traded rough emerald" (i.e. not obtained directly from the Company's own mining operations)

GEM has been stuck in a trading range between about 45p and 54p for the past 10 months - perhaps while the large holders repositioned themselves - looks as if we have a breakout now on relatively low volume - excellent timing with two ruby auctions by the end of June, one apparently this week - if this is the third week in April - see LSE bulletin board.

A rather nice run.

The daily mail article is nice, but unlikely to be the driver behind this upswing.

I've always thought that this is a company where at some point people may wish to invest at any price. We're not there yet, but perhaps one day.

For what it's worth I think we'll get to 60p and stick.

just found this which is an interesting read

'
The next auction will be of lower quality rubies and is scheduled to take place in India in either March or April with an auction of higher quality rubies scheduled to take place in Singapore in June, which would be more likely to give a boost to earnings and the share price. The board expect a steady increase in demand with the associated increase on achievable price to continue for the foreseeable future and the company’s exploration and expansion could also yield positive results'

Some mention in the conclusion of the piece, of the tax situation at the time of writing and as I said in a previous post, there is now some hope that there may be positive changes in that direction for miners; though nothing is certain, the references I have seen have been quite hopeful.

imo
