|Aberdeen Frontiers I.T. view;
Gemfields plc (0.6% of NAV), the London-listed miner of coloured gemstones in Zambia
and Mozambique, published a market update for the quarter to 30th June 2016, and will
soon release annual results to the same date. When published, they will disclose stable
production of emeralds over the year (30mn carats, making their Kagem mine in Zambia
by far the largest in the world), 23% growth in production of rubies (to 10.3mn carats),
stable unit costs and strong auction results (auction revenue of $174mn for the year with
stable pricing in emeralds and a strong rise in average per carat price achieved for rubies).
With new financing in place to ramp up ruby production, the company continues to make
great strides towards its ambition of becoming “the De Beers of coloured gemstones”.
The recent rally in the global mining sector has yet to reach Gemfields, but with strong
fundamentals and being deeply undervalued (Gemfield’s shares trades on 0.35X P/NAV,
4.5X 2016 EV/EBITDA and the company holds inventory and cash that exceeds its current
market cap by a significant margin), we believe the current share price in no way fully
reflects the company’s potential.|

|Update from Panmure on Research Tree:
Valuation increased post market update
"We update our model for the Market update, announced 01 August 2016. Production at Kagem was in line with our forecasts; however, costs beat our estimates. Montepuez production exceeded our forecasts... We continue to believe Gemfields offers an unrivalled proposition for investors, providing exposure to precious stone consumption growth through two world class mining operations, Kagem and Montepuez, as well as exposure to the luxury goods segment via the Company’s Fabergé brand. The company also offers additional opportunities for growth through additional production sources in Zambia, Colombia and Ethiopia. Following the general underperformance vs. the sector we believe a re-rating is highly likely given the numerous catalysts in the coming months."|

Australia’s Mustang Resources discovers rubies in Mozambique
JULY 28TH, 2016 HOME
Australia’s Mustang Resources has discovered its first ten rubies at digs in the concession it holds in Montepuez, Cabo Delgado province, northern Mozambique, the company said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The discovery of the ten rubies, totalling 2.16 carats, was described by the company as a good sign for the next phases of the concession, located near the concession area of British company Gemfields, where valuable gems have been found.
The work, which began on 25 June, are part of Phase 2A of the exploration programme and include well drilling, sampling and processing of the collected product.
Mustang’s mining project in Montepuez has three exploration licenses, covering an area of 15,800 hectares.
In June 2015, Mustang Resources announced it had discovered Mozambique’s first quality diamond deposit of market value.
Sixteen diamonds were discovered at the company’s project at the confluence of the Save River, which divides southern and central Mozambique, and the Runde River, near the border with Zimbabwe. (macauhub/MZ)|

Mustang Resources recovers first rubies while trenching at Montepuez
ASX-listed Mozambique-focused junior Mustang Resources has recovered 10 rubies while trenching at its Montepuez ruby project in northern Mozambique.
Mozambique – The 10 rubies, which total 2.16 ct, were recovered by Mustang Resources during initial trenching activities of the alluvial layers at the company’s flagship Montepuez project, which will soon undergo a bulk sampling programme to determine how best to unlock the country’s significant ruby potential.
Exploration Phase 2A
The trenching programme, which began on 25 June, as part of Phase 2A of the exploration programme, comprises strategic surface pitting, sampling and processing activities.
This is being undertaken in order to gather specific geological data regarding the project area, including stratigraphy, to identify ruby-bearing gravels and to delineate targets for the proposed bulk sampling programme, which is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2016.
Importantly, the current programme
Map indicating location of initial pits
is focused on alluvial material in which the higher quality rubies are thought to be hosted, with Mustang utilising low cost techniques for excavation, screening, processing and recovery, as well as for on-going rehabilitation.
To date, 25 samples have been processed. The pitting completed thus far has been based on two grids, each grid produced differing gravels, bedrock and yields.
Geological mapping of the gravel layers within the Montepuez project area is being simultaneously conducted to increase the company’s understanding of the Montepuez region’s geology.
Bulk sampling phase
Phase 2A will be followed by the commencement of a full bulk sampling programme with the aim of recovering rubies for sale as soon as marketable parcels are available. Furthermore, the data gathered during this programme will be utilised to complete a JORC compliant resource statement and feasibility study as Mustang advances towards full scale commercial mining.
The company believes that the successful exploration start-up and ruby recoveries highlight the significant underlying potential of Montepuez, while the rubies recovered from excavation and trenching of the gravel layers further validate the prospectivity of Monetpuez.
“The recovery of the rubies from alluvial sources at Montepuez is very encouraging and the team is buoyed by this early stage success.
“Work is continuing with the trenching and processing of additional pits as we advance towards the commencement of bulk sampling in Q3 2016,” says Mustang Resources MD Christiaan Jordaan.
The Montepuez ruby project consists of three licenses (4143L, 4258L and 5030L) covering 15 800 ha directly adjacent to the world’s largest ruby deposit discovered by Gemfields in 2012.
The project area lies within the Montepuez Complex, a structurally deformed, complex metamorphic terrane which is known to host two types of ruby mineralisation, namely primary amphibolite mineralisation, and secondary gravel bed mineralisation.|

Mustang Resources (ASX:MUS) has recovered its first rubies from its Montepuez ruby project in Mozambique – a good sign heading into full bulk sampling in Q3.
The aspiring ruby miner told its shareholders today that it had recovered 10 rubies for a total of 2.61 carats as part of an initial trenching program at the project.
The trenching is taking place at the project in order to help firm up targets for a bulk sampling program in the third quarter of this year.
It is hoped the bulk sampling will bring up rubies which will be able to be sold to the market – ahead of full project development.|
