I am now at break even as I entered at 120, the question is do I continue to hold? the only thing that is really going to give a boost to the share price in the short term would be corporate action and that is really just like gambling.
I guess it is a question of....what do you consider the downside to be from here and what would the upside be.

Huge volumes went through around 11.30am today. 4 times usual daily volumes have now been traded. Interesting.

Time to stop bashing Gartmore?

18 Aug 2010

The market didn't seem to know what to make of Gartmore's first-half results yesterday - initially the shares dropped by 3%, but by the end of the day they were up 3%. It may have been because while the headline numbers on flows looked bad, some people were willing to look past them.

They included influential equity analysts in the asset management field, such as Bruce Hamilton at Morgan Stanley and Philip Middleton at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Gartmore is something of a thinly-covered stock at the moment since the firm only listed in January, but a few high-profile analysts do follow it.

It is also worth mentioning, Chinese walls to one side, that BofA Merrill and Morgan Stanley both acted as sponsors and bookrunning banks on Gartmore's IPO back in January...

Formica (Henderson) refused to comment on speculation that the group is looking to bid for UK asset manager Gartmore Group

not great on net debt numbers but aum fall could have been worse. Also the net redemptions in the queue should be the last of the Rambourg shake out. It still remains cheap on a comparitive peer basis. Most fund managers are marketing machines rather than asset managers these days. That said, Sherbourne are the buyers of FCAM and they have a very good pedigree-perhaps buying their listing on aim is the way forward, the share registrar is full of the great and the good from the city.

Henderson results tomorrow. I think a long shot on a deal with Gartmore but stranger things have happened.

The only comparative to go long is indeed the fum versus jupiter.

They have failed to reduce their debt for over 6 months. The management should suspend themselves.
I'm starting to believe hvs's BS in that this will only go up on hot air from now.

Agree, difficult to guess. However, based on volumes/price trends there is a sell off today and yesterday, but nothing major. IMHO it's relatively flat and going nowhere in the short term. Need a good rumour now!

Well not much comment today.

I have a position taken at 120p...on the basis of the results I am not sure whether to cut and run or stay in.
I also hold FCAM which has been hammered in the last 6 months for no apparent reason and this morning it turns out that someone has just acquired a decent chunk of their stock sending them up 20%.
While I was under no doubt that FCAM was undervalued, I am less clear as to whether GRT is.

Well I'm still watching. Gartmore are a solid long standing asset manager, but not tempted to buy in yet.

Enviro,

Danger is you wake up one morning and Guy has walked and the share halves. Impossible to judge when the share's value hangs on the decision of one bloke.
