Try cluedo and cards, works for us. Then try a magnetic
dart board, good for maths and fun.

New low, going lower.

Games Workshop makes little models for painting. If you are of the mind that painting models can't compete with computer games and other modern technologies then this company will not be of any interest. GAW serves a niche market and it is an expensive hobby compared with some. Its survivability has often been in doubt and there has been no shortage of competition. Card collectables and associated gaming has periodically been a major competitor. Yet, in 2015 the company will celebrate its 40th anniversary, having been founded in 1975. In recent years GAW has undergone considerable change: products, target markets, store formats and organisational restructuring. It has developed niche products to retain older customers (over 16) however this will always be a small market. The biggest change has been development of the USA business. This has grown significantly but the downside as we have seen is currency exchange rates.

I have been on these boards for years and have always been
positive generally with companies, but I see this going to
400p. I hope I am wrong for the sake of the long investors here.

I do have to admit I am not too familiar with the financials,
but in the world of tech mad gadgets that children crave, this
has to be a worry for the company.

Inside appointment of CEO possibly not the wisest choice as simply an extension of TK control.

I spoke with one of the external candidates who basically said it was already a done deal and they were there to make it look like an external search had taken place.

Company needs to be braver in its strategy rather than more of the same which is all that is going to happen.

Uninspiring first half, revenues flat at constant currency - strong US $ should help in the second half.

The effects of the re-structure to one man stores should start to increase eps going forward.

Just wish they would start a policy to reduce prices. Revenues in niche markets wont grow unless people are introduced to the hobby, and cheaper prices would enable this.

Total warhammer game should produce a nice one off royalty once its released.

Interims to 1 December out on Wednesday. Doesn't include the important month of December but hopefully new CEO Kevin Rountree will give more clarity in his executive statements.

About Kevin RountreeKevin Rountree (age 44), COO. Kevin Rountree joined Games Workshop in March 1998 as assistant group accountant. He then had various management roles within Games Workshop, including head of sales for the Other Activities division (including Black Library, licensing and Sabertooth Games). Kevin was appointed CFO in September 2009. During the year ended 29 May 2011, he took on the responsibility of managing the Group's service centres globally. To reflect this, his title was changed to chief operating officer from chief financial officer. He, however, still retains responsibility for all financial matters within Games Workshop. He qualified as a chartered management accountant in August 2001. Prior to joining Games Workshop, Kevin was the management accountant at J Barbour & Sons Limited and trained at Price Waterhouse.

Is an IC tip good news or bad news?It has been said a few times that GAW should be well-placed to benefit from an economic recovery in Europe and the USA. GAW's market is the affluent middle class with disposal income and this sector has been more secure in their work and home and spending freely again on luxury products. While there is a small percentage of fanatical gamers in their 20s the bread and butter for GAW has been the young teens who stay in the hobby for just a few years, but spend a lot.

There is analysis of Games Workshop by Richard Beddard on the iii website:

"...it can be terse to the point of arrogance in its communications with investors".

Another typically brief statement from management today.

My son plays at Kingston and says the shop has been pretty full. Just hope the kids were also buying stuff, as well as playing! It's runs on a one man basis and just as full as before.
