The p/e of 20 is based on reported eps, in accordance with accounting reporting standards. The p/e of 8 is based on "adjusted" eps which exclude exceptional items and various non-cash adjustments such as writing off goodwill. In GFRD's case the reported results were much worse because of the £98m provision for losses on 2 construction contracts.

Can anyone help?

How does Google Finance come up with a PE of 20 but Digital Look and ADVFN quote a PE of 8?

I do understand that there are slightly different ways to calculate PE but surely not so different for this disparity.

Thanks in advance.

This gives some information:

It is a preferred contractor register. All it means is that Galliford asked to be appointed to six of the 22 Lots available and were successful. No one at this time can say how much will flow to Galliford. The £3.1bn appears to be the gross amount budgeted to the six categories that Galliford are interested in. Work will be awarded on a competitive basis so they'll have to keep their pencils sharpened. The key point being that these are not contracts won, simply the right to compete for work from a select pool of contractors.

gp.. yes also confused.
Just read: "The appointment includes a mix of high-, medium- and low-value projects throughout England, worth up to £3.1 billion in total. "

I work that out at circa 25% of t/o for each of forthcoming 4 years - if all that where GFRDs's.
It doesn't have the usual phrasing to say GFRD are having a share of £3.1bn, reading plain English you would think they are getting the whole lot.
Market reaction of trifling 1.31% up indicates market know they only have a piddling slice..maybe that's why amount wasn't stated.. embarrassingly low.

On the plus side, a gov't entity has the power (not constricted pending Brexit etc)to enter into 4 year contract from public purse.

An interesting news item today, but why didn't GFRD include details of the value of the six lots awarded?

GALLIFORD TRY APPOINTED TO LEADING EDUCATION BUILDING FRAMEWORK

Galliford Try, the housebuilding, regeneration and construction group, announces that its Building division has been awarded all six lots that it bid for on the Education and Skills Funding Agency's school building framework.

The appointment includes a mix of high-, medium- and low-value projects throughout England, worth up to £3.1 billion in total.

Galliford Try was an existing member of the current ESFA framework and has been awarded circa £350 million from the procurement vehicle between 2013 and 2017.

The framework will be utilised for the Priority School Building Programme and provides a procurement route for education providers to build free schools, academies and university technical colleges. The new framework begins in November 2017 and will run until 2021.

Peter Truscott, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to every lot that we bid for on the new ESFA framework. Membership of major public sector frameworks is a key part of our strategy for our construction business and we look forward to working once again with our partners at the ESFA to provide high-quality educational facilities around the country."

Really speedsgh.. well you keep those thoughts to yourself ;-)
I didn't say my attempts at humour were any good. :-)

I tend to be the opposite, assuming interested folks have online triggers for rns as keep BB for other than rns and dialogue/opinions.
I am interested in other folks thoughts and reasoning, though do have a big filter list.

And is today blue or red?????

No probs for posts, DR_SMITH. I take the view that, if i see something on GFRD (or any other stock for that matter) that is interesting, I may as well share it. I will share whatever I see, whether bullish or bearish. Other than that I try (although sometimes fail) not to say anything else and leave each individual to make up their mind on what they read. I know many use these boards for debating the pros and cons but I tend to prefer to keep my thoughts to myself, although I naturally will tend to post on companies that I either hold or have on a watchlist.
