12/5/2009 08:46 | It's a good question and at the end of the day I suppose they are a bit less consumer orientated, but not by much as more people seem to be aware of Howdens imo. The issue is that they deal with the builder/kitchen fitter who grabs the brochures and takes them to the client instead of the client walking in etc!! That said I am aware that some consumers do get brochures and then order via their fitter, but for me I would like to see Howdens tap into this market a bit better and integrate consumers with tradesman in such a way as to maintain thier core business with the trade but pinch the extra sales from joe public!!! Wickes are okay, but still don't have the range imo, the Waitrose of the DIY market!! ;) | trojan
11/5/2009 19:56 | ive got the note if you want me to forward it...did you see tpk figs? sounds like wickes doing well....they are obviously getting old mfi business..is this something which may help gfrm?or are they less consumer orientated? | patviera
11/5/2009 17:12 | Cheers for that Pat. 45p still seems like a steal to me!! ;) Too many peeps are saying that there are signs that we will be out of this reccession quicker than we think and it could well have already started. If that is the case then we may just see interest rates up before the year is out and as high as 1.5/1.75% (BOE)!!!! We shall see, may just be a bear rally of course!! | trojan
11/5/2009 16:39 | numis note today out...tgt 45p but more upside if economy strengthens a lot | patviera
10/5/2009 14:42 | trojan....pali upped gfrm tgt to 22 from 10p.....my tgt is 60p but we will need some offload of leases or a recovery in the housing market....here hoping!!! ps..did you look at dewhurst? | patviera
10/5/2009 11:26 | I think TP have enough on their minds at present, which will leave us to get on with recovering a decent SP! By the time they come knocking we should be around 50p at the very least imo!! "Travis Perkins is this weekend putting the finishing touches to a £300m rights issue and placing. The company, which owns the Wickes DIY chain, is expected to announce the heavily-discounted cash call to the stock market tomorrow morning. The capital raising has been fully underwritten by its financial advisers, HSBC and Citigroup, which has gained preliminary support from some large investors. Some analysts have expressed fears that the company, which has a market value of £925m, is close to breaching its banking covenants, but the rights issue will give it considerable headroom within its existing facilities. Travis, one of the most shorted stocks in the FTSE 350, has resisted pressure to tap the market for cash since February, when its share price was 290p. On Friday, it closed at 753p, meaning the move will be less dilutive for existing investors." | trojan
07/5/2009 16:43 | You are indeed my friend as I thought that was common knowledge!! LOL ;) Happy for peeps to take some profit and move over, but want to see a blue finish tomorrow or it will be a disappointing week imo!!! | trojan
07/5/2009 16:28 | a few peeps re-deploying... not my style but best of luck to em... no harm... healthy in the long run... we don't want it going up in a straight line... v...__ (incidently... the V for victory thing... the first four notes in Bethooven's fifth... dah dah dah daaaaaaaaahhhhh... is the letter V in morse code... as in dot dot dot dash or ...__ Not lost on Sir Winston Churchill I understand) ok, ok... i'm bored ;-) v | venkata
05/5/2009 12:46 | "TROJAN"?? Bad time Pat? ;) I was just replying to your "everyone is decreasing prices and gfrm are upping theirs" comment. I was looking at it in a general way and not industry specific which may have confused you!! Sorry. ;) Nice rise again so far, would be nice to see 40p this week. :) | trojan
05/5/2009 09:41 | TROJAN...what dont u agree with?was only a question..your right brent x always busy!! | patviera
04/5/2009 09:48 | Not sure I agree with that statement Pat. The one industry, other than banking, that has been hit really hard is the motor industry and yet they have nearly all increased thier prices for new cars in the UK, which makes no sense at all!! Okay they say it is due to currency moves etc, but that means nothing to thier customers who now have to pay more for the same car in an industry that are seeing next to nothing sales!! That aside, most of Howden's customers are small businesses that will just pass the price on to the customers and it will make no difference imo! When they are bidding for local authority work it is just one price, so again it's not the end of the world. The key here is that they are a solid business and people will want piece of mind and will be prepared to pay a bit more, but their prices don't seem to be too out of this world anyway. O/T.. When is Brent Cross never busy?? ;) | trojan
03/5/2009 13:39 | trojan..everyone is decreasing prices and gfrm are upping theirs....will it work?btw brent cross absolutely packed today!! | patviera
02/5/2009 10:50 | trojan...I agree...for me the key is that in sep-nov which are the busiest months not only should the economy be recovering but the comparatives will be that much easier.Trojan..sorry for some of my negativity but I hold loads so I try and be unbiased!!You ARE STILL NUMERO UNO X | patviera
02/5/2009 09:20 | "double top" Does that have rum in it? ;) Not into charts at all, good to see the history of a SP, but that's about it in my book!! Not sure I would agree on the view of the IMS being "poor", no surprises for me and at this time of the year it was never going to be outstanding or anything near it. share price has recovered which speaks volumes at the end of the day and if the city thought that it was poor, we would have been back in the 20p's for sure. venkata.. Yes I did mean a cold drink, perhaps a beer, but a decent chilled vodka will do the trick, prefer brandy myself although no good chilled of course!! ;) | trojan
01/5/2009 17:34 | trojan...delighted with the close after a poor update....need to break 34/5 to stop this being a double top!!! They do feel firm...robbis may be right with his 40p target sooner than later!! | patviera
01/5/2009 17:31 | Bit too "street" for me Trojan... But I have just been in Finland for a few days (working) and have brought back some pukka Vodka which will be nicly chilled in a couple of hours (if that's what you mean by a "cold one")... and being around 50% up from entry to GFRM I'm claiming some rights to enjoy... good luck to all... here for the long run btw which has only just started imo... here's hoping anyway... v | venkata
01/5/2009 17:14 | Time for you to get a cold one I think venkata, or should I call you Snoop Dog? ;) | trojan
01/5/2009 16:52 | let the trend be your friend... till it bends... at the end... bon weekend all | venkata
01/5/2009 16:38 | Always go with the flow!! ;) Nice close, have a good weekend all. | trojan
01/5/2009 16:27 | no sorry no link but hear theres a decent buyer around...not that flow is important xx | patviera
