13/4/2010 11:12 | Mounting Evidence Shows Positive Impact of Biotech Crops Date : 13/04/2010 @ 12:03 Mounting Evidence Shows Positive Impact of Biotech Crops PR Newswire BRUSSELS, April 13, 2010 BRUSSELS, April 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- - Summary of Peer-Reviewed Research in Nature Biotechnology Magazine Concludes That Biotech Crops are Having a Positive Economic Impact on Farmers, Especially Those in Developing Countries A growing body of research evidence indicates that biotech crops are delivering higher yields and better economic performance for farmers around the world. In a peer-reviewed article that appears in the April 2010 edition of Nature Biotechnology magazine, Janet E. Carpenter writes that the accumulated evidence from farmer surveys helps to explain the widespread and growing popularity of biotech crops. In her research article, Carpenter, who has worked on issues related to agricultural biotechnology for more than ten years, provides analysis of 49 peer-reviewed publications reporting on farmer surveys that compare yields and other indicators of economic performance for adopters and non-adopters of currently commercialized biotech crops. Research analysis presented by Carpenter supports the claim that biotech crops are providing farmers with increased yields. Citing evidence that 74 percent of yield comparisons of biotech and conventional crops showed positive results for adopters of biotech crops versus non-adopters, she also noted the impact the technology is having on farmers in developing countries. "The results for yields indicate that farmers in developing countries are achieving greater yield increases than farmers in developed countries. The average increases for developing countries range from 16 percent for insect-resistant corn to 30 percent for insect-resistant cotton," Carpenter concluded... | someuwin

Fri 26th Mar 2010 10:32:30 =WSJ: Suspect In UK Trading Probe Denies Allegations By David Enrich Of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL One of the seven suspects in the U.K.'s investigation of an alleged insider-trading ring issued a statement Friday in which he "denies the allegations that have been made against him," according to his legal counsel. The suspect, Julian Rifat of hedge fund Moore Capital Management LP, was arrested Tuesday in connection with what the U.K.'s Financial Services Authority described as an insider trading ring. He was released without being charged. Rifat "is deeply distressed by the accusation and is working to clear his name as soon as possible," according to a statement issued Friday by U.K. law firm Kingsley Napley LLP. "It would not be appropriate for us or for him to comment further at this stage in light of the fact that the investigation is on-going." (This story and related background material will be available on The Wall Street Journal Web site, WSJ.com.) Rifat, a London-based "execution trader" at New York fund Moore Capital, is being represented by Stephen Pollard, a Kingsley Napley partner who's a veteran of defending City of London workers against government accusations. Rifat is the first suspect to publicly comment on his arrest. None of the seven men arrested this week as part of the FSA's crackdown have been charged with a crime. The FSA hasn't detailed its allegations against the men, beyond asserting that it suspects them of participating in a "sophisticated and long-running" insider-trading scheme that netted "significant profits." -By David Enrich, The Wall Street Journal; david.enrich@wsj.com (END) Dow Jones Newswires March 26, 2010 06:32 ET (10:32 GMT) Copyright(c) 2010, Dow Jones & Company Inc. | mf10
26/3/2010 10:43 | I'm still hoping a few more bidders will show their hand yet. FGN's patents must be of enormous value to the big GM players. And, lets face it - the likes of Bayer and Monsanto have VERY big pockets! The 80/90p potential bid is a giveaway imo. | someuwin
