07/6/2002 18:58 | pommy, yessssssssssssssss. And for once the gunners looked not bad, must have been the hammers putting a shine on their game | tradesman
07/6/2002 18:02 | did we win, its all i can do to tpe!?? | pommy
07/6/2002 16:55 | yessssssssssssssssss | tradesman
07/6/2002 11:54 | No, they wouldn't deliberately lose, national pride would probably prevent that, but a draw would achieve the same result. Therefore England cannot rely on Johnnie foreigner to do the job for us. We must do it ourselves!!! | mayjuli
07/6/2002 11:51 | G.. I like them sort of games especially if there's a follow on game or extra time !!!! ITYNL PS I hope England don't rely too much Beckham's input yet again . | mealiff
07/6/2002 11:48 | that sounds quite reassuring actually. I suppose another scenario could be that if we get beat by Argentina they will probably delibrately lose against Sweden ! and win for England would put us firmly in the driving seat. s. | starseeker
07/6/2002 11:46 | A draw would be okay. That would put the pressure on both Sweden and Argentina for their game. If we beat nigeria by more than one goal and the other 2 draw in their match then we will go top on goal diference, each having 5 points. Then it could come down to a toss of the coin for 2nd place. | mayjuli
07/6/2002 11:35 | Puts the pressure on the Argentine more like. Once we've hammered them then they'll have to beat the Swedes to qualify. | mayjuli
07/6/2002 11:32 | Sweden won 2-1 against Nigeria, that certainly puts pressure on England | starseeker
07/6/2002 11:29 | I liked the quote in one of the tabloids this week from someone who had just watched a match in the pub. "I always thought it was a game of two halves but now realise its a game of five pints!" G. | greystone

06/6/2002 23:12 | I think the French are just getting up to leave... | pommy
05/6/2002 17:48 | "When you're 1-0 up with one minute to go and concede a goal, it hurts." (Rudi Voeller - Germany manager) (Get used to it Rudi.. remember 5-1?) | m.t.glass
05/6/2002 16:42 | What a result for the Irish team! Watched it with the kids in the classroom. The roof was lifted with that equaliser, - and that was only me!! You'll never beat the IRISH :-) Come on IRELAND! | edz.
05/6/2002 15:42 | I'm back home after a competition prize trip to the England vs Sweden match. Everything about it was fantastic, apart from the match result of course. The Japanese are fanatical England fans, many with the official shirts. Lots of them speak English and want to be photographed with supporters from England. The ones who don't speak English, just say "Beckham" and cheer. The stadium was awesome, ten times as impressive as anything we could build here. A weekend I won't forget for a long time. | kajman
05/6/2002 15:28 | And is anyone on this BB watching from the US? What kind of reaction did the excellent USA result bring? | m.t.glass
05/6/2002 15:26 | Congratulations to the Irish. Superb performance. Finnan at right back did well. Ditto Staunton. No bad players amongst them. Hope they go through. | m.t.glass
05/6/2002 15:19 | Rivaldo fined £4000!, about .015% of his annual wage, poor man. England...... Will we play Heskey again at left wing? a 6ft plus right footed centre forward, running down the left wing, trying to get the ball on his right foot to cross to 2 men 5ft 8ins in height market by 2 6ft something centre halves. | dailos
05/6/2002 15:14 | 'Well they displayed what England lacked...' what an ENglish manager? | pommy
05/6/2002 14:44 | Mealiff Well they displayed what England lacked... Commitment, passion and fight and that is worth a result in any game. m | martini
05/6/2002 14:31 | What team spirit! Pity we didn't show a similar passion against Sweden. They deserved that point and wouldn't it be ironic if they went through after all the Roy Keane hubris. They are definitely bigger than one player and they just proved it. | robbb
05/6/2002 14:18 | Yessssss. 1-1 equaliser for the Irish. Injury time. | hjb |
