LONDON-- The U.K.'s Department of Transport awarded the franchise to operate the South Western rail franchise in England for the next seven years to a joint venture between U.K. bus and rail operator FirstGroup PLC (FGP.LN) and MTR, the operator of the Hong Kong Metro.
First MTR South Western Trains Ltd will oversee a 1.2 billion pound ($1.5 billion) investment into the franchise, the Department for Transport said.
