Comment from a mining analyst this morning:

"the Financial Times brought us back to reality with a feature on the Moody’s Diamond report, which indicated that further price cuts of the order of 15% was required to bring the market back into equilibrium next year. "

Hi everyone, hope you are fed and 'watered', but not too fat!, Yes Varrirob, received the message and thanks for the cheer.

I notice a little selling of lucara in Stockholm today, against the recent tick-up for Firestone. Looks like exciting times ahead, although no doubt a roller-coaster year.

tanelorn,

Yes that's the second time that has been mentioned recently, so yes there may be some substance to that rumour.

But the issue would be for FDI shareholders, because if they are sold before production, the upside will be lost.

If it did happen, it would be the final disappointment for shareholders who have suffered over an extended period, so let's hope they finish the mine and commence production first.

Then there is potential for a value uplift before any sale.

Another analyst comment, and a bit more upbeat long term, although this doesn't seem to take into account my concerns that the world is still in recession and things may get worse.

Diamonds

www.idexonline.com reports on the Bain & Co study that estimates that polished and rough diamond prices have fallen 8% and 15% respectively in the first nine months of 2015.

Looking ahead Bain anticipates that rough demand will grow by 2-4 % per annum over the next 15 years. Owing to the aging and depletion of existing mines and relatively few new mines coming on stream, rough supply is expected to reduce by 1-2% per annum, with a shortfall being evident by mid-2019.

Hi Andy,

I was thinking about "finger on the pulse", that it takes a while to know you've missed one peak, but will get it spot-on, at the next opportunity.

My mind was contemplating profit and exit points etc.,

I have a large position in Lucara (for a PI) for 8 yrs plus, old afd times, and i missed a massive exit point, albeit matters have recovered.
Regards
Tan

Tan,

Only 5 years?

You're a newbie compared to some of us!

I know people in from the IPO onwards!

Hi V

I have no doubt that in three years this company will have thriven, with or without Lucara. It may take longer than you hope, but i love the line from the following clip, by the Late Sir Ralph Richardson...

Never sell,......

.. your life blood.... keep it whole,

This advise only applies to proper companies, like Firestone,,,, until you've followed them for five years and have the scent of their blood, and can choose shrewdly.

Warm Regards

Tan

p.s. I've had a couple of whiskies, and my advise should always be taken with a double scotch.!

So you may dip your toe in at some point then earnest if things start to look interesting then :-)
Ditto Tan, and to be honest when I see your name or I think it's chipchap pop up on the same thread it reassures me that there are still some of the more seasoned crew still holding lol. You're right about Paragon, we could do with a serious lifeline being thrown there. Probably a bit to early to judge with Firestone but could be a reassuring safety net if things get a bit sticky.

I do feel i'm stalking Varrirob, everytime i look up a share, he'e already there and with greater knowledege than i.

I would suggest several points as follows:

1) The mine might over-run, current management doesn't think so, but....
2) There is little available cash to install $50 millions worth of quality x-ray speciality large stone recovery equipment.
3) Lucara have the knowledge and experience, and money..
4) Also to be debt free and part of a bigger therefore less risky mining company.
5) We've seen how small stand-alone mines suffer in the current market.( one horse / pony etc)

Guess i'm in for a lucara offer....? 20p
Oh and why not offer a couple of quid for Paragon, 20-25km away.

My thoughts exactly, especially as I am currently holding an avarage that is somewhat higher than the current share price To average down or not to average down, that is the question? Does give some confidence to our operation though and as I am in LUC anyway with a good margin there are upsides to this. Encouraging to see that we are for once on time and budget. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it can stay that way. If so the management will have delivered far more than the FDI of old. I have a long history with this share so it would be good to see it play out in a positive way.

Varrirob,

Interesting, thanks for that link.

With FDI within a year of scheduled production, it would be hard to see a deal being agreed that would delight FDI shareholders with the current share price as the starting point.

I would personally be disappointed if they did a deal now, they would be almost certainly trading away the potential upside IMHO.

Management topping up is a good sign though.
