17/3/2017 15:40 | tom111 - Malcy said on his blog recently that they were a '10 bagger from here' if the moratorium gets lifted. At that time they were about 15p. 23m:45s in. | webpax
17/3/2017 15:29 | tom - I can't remember exsctly what Cove had - think it was 2 TCF from memory.....and they went for about GBP 2.40 in the end........not sure how well you can compare the two but it gives you an idea as these guys have about a third of 82 TCF recoverable....in other words......if the moratorium is lifted....expect fireworks here. jmo. | thecynical1

13/3/2017 11:25 | The prime minister is under mounting internal pressure to adopt a domestic gas reservation policy to deal with forecast shortages. The chairman of the government’s backbench committee on energy and the environment, Craig Kelly, has said it is something Malcolm Turnbull should consider. With Turnbull due to meet senior executives from the east coast gas companies on Wednesday, Kelly told Guardian Australia the government needed to be open to adopting a reservation policy to ensure that a looming lack of gas supply did not create a full-blown energy crisis With Turnbull due to meet senior executives from the east coast gas companies on Wednesday, Kelly told Guardian Australia the government needed to be open to adopting a reservation policy to ensure that a looming lack of gas supply did not create a full-blown energy crisis Broad told Guardian Australia’s Politics Live podcast there needed to be serious consideration about whether 15% of gas supply should be reserved for Australian manufacturing. The prime minister summoned the gas chiefs to this week’s meeting with the government after the Australian Energy Market Operator issued a pointed warning that New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia would likely face gas shortages from the summer of 2018-19. The forecast supply shortage, which has driven up wholesale prices, has been looming for some time. A senior executive from AGL told a Senate inquiry last week the problem was currently so dire the company was contemplating building its own LNG hub in Queensland to help secure reliable supply downstream. A number of players have identified that a lack of reliable gas-fired backup power has been a factor in the recent South Australian blackouts. Senior sources say the government has not yet resolved what specific policy mechanisms it might adopt to open up more gas supply for domestic manufacturers and households, but all options were on the table given the seriousness of the situation. | loganair
13/3/2017 11:01 | You are also assuming the incumbent electricity utilities would just allow Tesla to roll into town, 'solve the problem' make some money and disappear!! I wonder does the electricity regulation currently allow for battery storage, what about an open competition under public tender rules for different storage solutions never mind the fact that Oz have their own local battery companies trying to compete with Tesla.....the list goes on and on...Musk's plan is good publicity for him but lacking on the actual detail needed to deploy b storage in a highly regulated market. | prettybullish
13/3/2017 10:57 | Lets see how that 80% feel when the AC gets turned off because they have to have a power cut? Then bring it an increasing electricity bill to make matters worse and peoples pockets a bit lighter...roll that scenario forward for another 6 months and lets see where the pressure starts to build. Lets also be honest about it Labour used it as a political issue to get back into power in NT.....if it looks like it starts to become a problem for them....they will start looking for the exit doors and a quick way to wind up the public enquiry and to allow fracking to start most likely in a managed way with environmental oversight etc etc. This is going to happen and the gas shortages / electricity issues etc have brought that date forward to sometime later this year. | prettybullish
13/3/2017 10:49 | am I the only one on here who thinks that Musk´s comments are those of someone who is not getting enough attention at the moment......not enough headlines......???? Sounds to me like real BS....but hey...... | thecynical1
13/3/2017 10:11 | Head-line from a local NT news paper - ´THE Federal Government is pleading for urgency on the fracking moratorium.´ | loganair
13/3/2017 10:08 | surely elon musks foray into Australia is not going to help the frackers... | mhin2
13/3/2017 09:51 | Yep, it's pretty clear something has to change with the energy situation there. Perhaps this is what the market is betting on. Certainly an interesting day today! | mr hat
13/3/2017 09:42 | Also compare FOG vs Sound Energy....remove moratorium and FOG should be due a rerating of 3-4x if market believes value of Sound Energy based on their results to date. FOG has better partners with a free carry in exploration and more potential resources. | prettybullish
13/3/2017 09:39 | The moratorium wont last beyond the end of this year.....electricity prices are out of control...the same farmers that voted labour in the NT election have seen prices increase 30-40%+....gas shortages already hitting and going to get worse as year goes on....electricity prices forecast to get worse....blackouts already happening in some states. Overall energy market is a complete mess and the public are feeling it and seeing it every day. Federal government are up in arms about moratorium's....very quickly Labour policies will become the problem and blame for gas shortages!! Only solution is more gas for domestic consumption. | prettybullish |
