16/3/2014 09:39 | Crimea is voting on whether to rejoin Russia or stay with Ukraine but with more autonomy. The referendum has been condemned as "illegal" by Kiev and the West but is backed by Moscow. Since the fall of Ukraine's pro-Moscow President Viktor Yanukovych, Russian troops have in effect taken control of the majority ethnic-Russian region. Voters are expected to support leaving Ukraine, but Crimean Tatars are boycotting the poll. | neilyb675
15/3/2014 10:46 | Two people have been killed in clashes between pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian activists in Ukraine's eastern city of Kharkiv, officials say. Five people were injured overnight, as gunshots were fired. Rival groups blamed each other for the violence. Earlier, Russia and the US failed to agree on how to resolve the crisis in Ukraine's Crimea region, ahead of a secession referendum there. Russia vowed to respect Sunday's vote - but the US said it was illegitimate. Moscow has been tightening its military grip on Crimea - the southern autonomous republic in Ukraine - where voters are to decide on whether to re-join Russia or stay with Kiev. | neilyb675
15/3/2014 07:38 | Thing is with all the debt the co. has, it looks as though the assets are pledged against the loans, I mean how much of Abramovich's actual capital is tied up here, should banks start to unwind loan guarantees against some of the Russian assets, how vulnerable are those cos. with assset to loan ratios. This has been falling way before the crisis, it has been exacerbated by the the Ukrainian issue, on the basis of slowing demand for its products and falling prices for things like steel, etc. Because it's cheap does not necessarily mean it's good value! | bookbroker
15/3/2014 07:16 | A unique set of circumstances have brought about this buying window. One thing is certain,it will at some point return to its true value. | karmastuartra
14/3/2014 22:42 | Oh! and russian retaliation! | casholaa
14/3/2014 21:18 | Well it won't be war that's for sure. But it's the potential economic sanctions. EU and US have been dragged into this Ukraine business in part due to being 'Guarantors' and UN and Nato standing. Nobody wants to be burdened with the Ukraine debt mountain let alone throw money and death at it too. Just goes to show how easy it is to overthrow a government these days (lessons learned from Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and possibly Syria). Very easy to de-stablize any country really. EVR is 100% punt in my view. Ironically, by international law there is the right to self-determination.. Economic sanctions against russia... just a thought... could be time to invest in oil and gas lol | casholaa
