"Figure 3 | Half the size. A SolidEnergy prototype battery (left) has 400 Wh/kg and 1200 Wh/L, twice
that of an Apple iPhone 6 battery (right)."

"SolidEnergy is introducing its materials for
drones this year; watches & wearables in
2016; smartphones in 2017; and electric
vehicles in 2018."

Interesting linked pair of 250k trades, looks almost like an old fashioned rollover :)

I think you mean powertrain, not drivetrain, Diesel. According to that second Cleantechnica link an electric car contains only around 20 moving parts as opposed to 2000 for an ICE one, though that must presumably depend on excluding things like mirrors and doors from the definition of moving parts.

'fingers xed', hotcopper,

'OK Ok Ok . I heard you all , forgot about good news coming , my excuse jet lag . As usual I have no idea how the market will react , i do feel it may even be greater than $2.00 any guess when the risk is taken away . Hottin , when I was on site , they too were targeting early 2018 for production . But keep an eye on the tailings which are ready to produce now !!!'

'The tailings don't need any specialty equipment either they can be treated the old way to create cash flow .'

The costs are down to production numbers also. Hence why the model 3 price is anticipated to be much closer to a 'normal' ICE

Banshee, seems to be a lot of spurious numbers around at the mo, so why would electric cars only require 10% of the labour to build? It is only the drive train that is different, that would imply that 90% of the time is spent installing the engine!

"A switch to zero-emission cars is likely to put thousands of German auto industry jobs at risk as electric cars only require 10 per cent of the work force to assemble. "

First time I have heard that, interesting if true, and perhaps problematic, on top of the impact of increased automation generally. Also begs the question of why they aren't cheaper? ( ok - I know batteries)

Someuwin, are you sure about this Germany policy, I read it as no NEW cars were to be fossil fuel, if not no one is going to buy a non EV car after about 2023!

The battery tech is improving and getting cheaper all the time, the timing of the "handover" should make it fairly painless in that regard - although charging will very likely still take sig longer than filling up.

Meanwhile looks as though we could run up to 45p here with new resource figures looming.

Its going to be one hell of a challenge unless they can sort out the range of the cars

Worth thinking about this statement...

By 2030 (just 14 years away) no-one will be allowed to build or own a petrol or diesel car in Germany.

That's the 4th largest economy in the world. 80m people. Not using, building or exporting fossil fuel cars.

Other countries will follow suit (Norway & Tne Netherlands already committed to switching by 2025).

Demand for lithium is going to skyrocket!

What about the poor old (up to) 3.5bn dollars of tin on top? barely merits a mention in the header so far :)

Could make it the lowest cost producer in world, which is more important than the biggest reserve. (Biggest is nice too mind)

Well I've bought a load more today.

Last week's presentation makes a compelling buy case...
