28/7/2005 10:05 | Trouble is the customers, manufacturers, staff are likely to have fugged off already or will do so very shortly. Two weeks was mentioned, perhaps that puts a deadline of this Friday on certain things. Anyway Rutronik appear to have picked up plenty of business.. | momentos
28/7/2005 09:58 | Administrators appointed 15th July - 28th today...not actaully that much tempus fugged imho. If lets say Arrow took ELH whole, don't think there would be huge issues in winning customers back. That said, expect we are all fugged either way! | chiansaw
28/7/2005 09:38 | Chian - As tempus fugs its way onwards the chances of the company being sold whole become even more remote than they were at the outset. | momentos
28/7/2005 09:28 | Ta Mom' - nice to see someones saying 'smuggaboogasomethin Be nice if the administrators or anyone could actually keep the s'holders in touch with developments - no such thing will happen of course. Been wondering about the merits of say Arrow buying ELH and creating 'ArrowEurodis' to concentrate on Europe via the Dutch distributor and Arrow taking things further with WPC in the Far East. They appear very cash rich and would hope synergies of ELH and their current set up would blend well plus keep any part of ELH falling into competitor hands. Also get the full tax breaks of the ELH losses. All a dream no doubt! Also appears to have been no job cuts yet, so who knows if administrators are in discussuions to sell ELH off in its entirety. | chiansaw

27/7/2005 11:05 | jordaggy - if you haven't had to do self assessment forms you may not want to be sucked into it because it is a lot of hassle. It is difficult to do a form without some assistance. Personally I use a programme called Taxcalc (see www.taxcalc.co.uk) which does absolutely everything for you, calculates your tax and even prints out your forms. A booked tax loss is only useful to you if you have large profit at some stage in the future. Suppose one year you make a profit of £50,000 on share deals, you would be liable for tax at 40% on the excess above around £8000 (the annual tax free limit) ie you would have to pay out £16,800 to the taxman. But if you have booked £42,000 of losses in earlier years this would cancel it out and you would pay nothing. I am doubtful whether a lot of regular traders tell the taxman at all about their share deals. It quickly gets very complex. But if found out there can be heavy penalties. Personally I try to get it exactly right and that way I also get the benefit of tax losses. At the end of a tax year I often sell shares which are showing a loss just to book the benefit. I may then buy them back after 30 days later in a new tax year so my portfolio stays the same. | atomic dog
27/7/2005 09:50 | Isis - no they don't. They highlight the need for reasoned debate. Sorry but Katie Price, Haystack and certain others brought nothing. Others, including nonlottie to a degree, did. Unfortunately the Trolls outnumbered the reasoned bears in this instance, which caused an appropriate reaction. | momentos
27/7/2005 09:43 | Re 9313, a poignant post Cross. Glad to see you're not letting the bast*rds grind you down. | realcooltrader
27/7/2005 09:05 | Well remembered Chian (re the tax disc). Not blaming anyone but myself guys. Happy (well not exactly happy) to take the hit. And I agree, the rewards still far outweighed the risk....I'd invest in the same situation again but too much exposure the problem for me. Nothing wrong with being positive when it's justified, just wasn't really justified following the Philips loss. Obviously if a miracle occurs and ELH get a new backer and replace the loss I'd hold, as that would take us back in time prior to the Philips RNS, when the share was a screaming buy, let alone a hold. Can't quite see it happening though. | crossfirecssf |
