Thought this board would have a bit more traffic under the circumstances...

I bought £5k of PHGP when gold was at £1568/oz on Monday and wished I'd bought more now.

Gold should really get a rerating what with the dire state of the Western financial system, which seems to be built on sand. I thought that in 2008/2009 though and they successfully kicked the can down the road for another ~14 years.

Long gold and tinned sardines...

Investment demand (excluding OTC) for Q3 was 47% lower y-o-y at 124t, reflecting weak sentiment among some investor segments.

Central banks continued to accumulate gold, with purchases estimated at a quarterly record of nearly 400t.


Any ideas why CB's are increasing exposure?

Well I bought last Sep at 121.6 and sold at the end of Aug at 138.3 so made a decent return but not as much as I could have!

Next questions are:

1. where do I buy back
2. do I go for PHAU instead or even PHPM?

A confusing factor when you're making comparisons is that PHAU is up on its Friday 4.30pm close, whereas gold is up (by a smaller amount) from its Friday 10pm close.

Because PHGP is priced in sterling, gold in dollars.

The price of gold is roughly flat at the moment but sterling has dropped quite sharply against the dollar, so the sterling value of PHGP has risen (albeit in devalued pounds).

Hi Toffeeman,

PHGP closed at a mid-price of 14,378 yesterday, and 14,357 today, a fall of roughly 0.15%.

So it looks to me as if ADVFN are giving us a bum steer by showing a fall of 0.9%.

I think both PHAU and PHGP can trade at a premium or a discount for a short while so they are not exact correlates for gold price

Gold is up 0.4% today

PHGP is down 1.2%

PHAU is up 0.5%

JUst want to understand - should I be in PHAU instead?

I have been reading and watching various material from Kitco et al and they seem to say 1850 resistance from which it may well pull back before moving further - so a trading opportunity?
