12/3/2015 10:18 | Well putting two and two together....the business is on the up and the hard yards have been gained and they mention recent and potential corporate activity in the bowling sector. It should also be noted that the FD leaves in July so good timing for a takeover deal that brings new management and low costs of merger. The board will look at all feasible options that can meet this objective. A further announcement will be made once the board has analysed all of the options to determine whether they are likely to be more beneficial to shareholders than the current situation. Mmmmm hold on to your hats and shares I suspect but DYOR. I wonder if we will make it to the Agm before an announcement ! | davidosh
12/3/2015 08:16 | Interesting. Strategic options being explored. | boonkoh
12/3/2015 07:24 | Another great set of results from Essenden... Over the last five years, management has achieved a remarkable and impressive turnaround in the Company's trade; the results currently being reported are excellent. There is further potential for profit growth within the existing business. Nevertheless, your board believes that the Company has now reached a point where it is appropriate to examine a range of strategic options which could further enhance shareholder value given recent and potential corporate activity in the bowling sector. The board will look at all feasible options that can meet this objective. A further announcement will be made once the board has analysed all of the options to determine whether they are likely to be more beneficial to shareholders than the current situation. | battlebus2
24/2/2015 09:44 | Couple of trades at 68p.. | battlebus2
22/2/2015 08:44 | That would be great Davidosh, anything that brings them more publicity would be a good thing. | battlebus2
21/2/2015 19:43 | The mild winter weather should be perfect conditions for getting families out and about especially in the half term holidays....I would expect the like for likes to be up considerably when there has been no snow on the ground or awful windy weather keeping peeps indoors. The other increase in returns should come from the Namco deal done last year. I will try to get these guys to come to my Peterborough investor workshops event in April www.melloevents.com/ | davidosh
20/2/2015 17:02 | Thanks ottrott , i make it 12.3 which as you say is still a very good deal. This will fall to single figures in the next twelve months imv. | battlebus2
20/2/2015 16:41 | bb2, 50m shares now, 21m last year. PER 12/2014 more like 12. Still a good deal. | ottrott
20/2/2015 16:13 | Every which way i look at this these are cheap, expected PBT of 3.2 million and net cash of 2.3 million with leisure spending on the increase and material benefits of the new Namco deal and the new site in Doncaster to come, surely a sensible move for me to add to my holding today.... | battlebus2
20/2/2015 13:06 | Volume picking up today :)) | battlebus2
20/2/2015 11:52 | Bought a few more, i believe it's cheap and virtually no spread at present. Results next month should show an ever improving picture. | battlebus2
13/1/2015 14:57 | This share is so thinly traded it is hard to get in and out. Even on an RNS day like this the volumes and spread is so wide. I wonder if this is the sort of play suitable for PE. Buy, leverage up with debt, milk the free cash flow, and expand number of outlets. | boonkoh
13/1/2015 13:26 | I know they have ruled out the transformational acquisition but i wouldn't rule out a few complementary purchases. | battlebus2
13/1/2015 12:56 | Shanklin - depreciation has been running at about £1.6m pa and has been matched pretty closely by capex in recent times. EBITDA is a pretty useless number when so much capex but ebitda £5.7m less capex £1.6m suggests they are chucking off c. £4.1m cash p.a. pre finance charges. Finance charges should be very much lower this year so may £3.9m free cash flow. If that were taxed at 20% then post tax profit might be £3.1. As there are huge retained losses the tax rate may be much much lower. Tax accounting is beyond me. Depending on tax rate the P/E looks to be in the 8.7-10.7 range on these numbers, with, hopefully, more to come from improved machine estate, improvements in trading etc. I like it as a cash cow type investment. Where else can you get a c.10% cash flow yield, decent balance sheet etc? Clearly a downturn in trading would change things but it looks considerably too cheap here to me. | eezymunny
13/1/2015 11:58 | I will be getting Essenden along to the March or April Mello event so I am sure there will be an opportunity to meet management once results are out. They seemed pretty confident for 2015 so everything going in the right direction. | davidosh
13/1/2015 11:41 | bb2, I would quite like to be long ESS shares. However, I always find their trading updates particularly opaque in terms of exactly what profitability they are achieving. EBITDA is of no use to me other than as a step on the way to a clear explanation of their calculation of adjusted PBT. | shanklin
13/1/2015 11:32 | That seems to be the trouble Eezy Mr Market seems reluctant to mark these up at present, not sure if we have a seller still. | battlebus2
13/1/2015 08:18 | Indeed bb. They forget to mention that finance costs will be much lower in 2015. Not many around on this sort of valuation, strong balance sheet, improving profits etc. We'll see if Mr Market is interested! | eezymunny
13/1/2015 07:46 | More progress with today's update and looking great for 2015. | battlebus2
07/11/2014 17:38 | The spread on ESS is scary. Wish there was one liquidity or volume! | boonkoh
07/11/2014 15:30 | Bb2, I'm with Playful and Ottrott in the bar, they want to meet you in person! | cockerhoop
07/11/2014 15:19 | Live from Mello 2014, just listened to a very interesting talk from Giles Hargreave of Hargreave Hale fame where he enlightened us on a few " tips" of his and amongst them was Essenden. He really like the management. Ditto Giles. | battlebus2
13/10/2014 08:53 | A decent dir buy on Friday... I guess this hangs about if Trefick want out but that confirms adds weight to my belief that this could be a good cash machine going forward. | eezymunny |
