Standard Life, which holds a minority stake in Essar Energy, said that Essar Global's plans would deprive small shareholders of the company's future growth value.

"This potential bid is an example of cynical opportunism and should not be allowed to proceed," David Cumming, head of equities at Standard Life Investments, said in a statement sent to journalists.

Well, I wouldnt be opening any shorts now!
Looks like it will be taken private and at a "Modest premium" to the current share price according to press reports today.
Minority investors get royally screwed.
I will not touch any company that is majority owned by a single investor, particularly if they are Russian but Indian comes a close second.

You wern't posting here 2 years ago, you started posting nov 2013 so don't talk rubbish. Ok give you some credit if you shorted from nov you'd still have bagged over 50 points and if your short £100 per point then you've made some money. None the less the smart money knows the money cycles and when too many become bearish they like to play some games by reversing the trend. This was due to go bust 2 years ago.. why has it not yet?. Assets on book are 4-5 * MC and although debts are large thanks in part due to the indian tax system, all it takes is some restructuring like thomas cook did and bam wam you shorters will be goners.

Essar U.K. Refinery has only just opened after a six month shut down because they were short of cash
