I must say that although I did not attend the Agm this year the impression was that the board would not accept a low end offer and that is exactly what this feels like especially when you take the level of cash, the improving business & outlook and no dividend coming to shareholders into the equation !

Surely after nine months there were competitive bids or were Volution the only game in town for some reason clearly unknown to shareholders !

Excellent set of results. Chairman quite bullish about the coming year and a dividend increase. Should make the sale a lot easier imo. GLA

Of course, ETQ may consider both the above issues to be outside the scope of a trading statement, but the silence on both subjects is deafening. All IMHO.

this is the peak trading point for etq, geared as it is to new build.as interest rate cycle turns so they will slow.board should have used strength to consolidate by acquisition opportunity missed.they lack imagination and will, beyond their comfort zone.in spite of this etq, diffusion is a very neat business.

After the announcement to put itself up for sale I have revisited the trading update for the nine months to December 2014.
Sales were up 16% in the nine months but are only expected to be at up least 10% for the full year - indicating a drop off in the last quarter of the year to March 2015.

Fortunately ETQ have provided quarterly results for the last two years and when you look at the quarterly performances it shows that sales and profitability are no longer showing an upward trend.

The board states that the company, as an independent business, has a secure future. However the quarterly trend suggests profitable growth may not be achievable.

Sales for the quarters to
June 13 and June 14 2143 2771
Sept 13 and Sept 14 2254 2672
Dec 13 and Dec 14 2642 2694

Profit before tax for the quarters to
June 13 and June 14 100 266
Sept 13 and Sept 14 130 214
Dec 13 and Dec 14 229 201 (after adding back 70)

I just think readers of Paul's commentary need to be highly aware of whether or not he is holding the shares he is commenting upon. Inevitably we would all tend to write more positively in updates relating to shares we hold. ETQ currently has a Stockopedia stock rating of 91/100 so on that objective measure, it probably did not deserve to be trashed.

This contrasts with (say) TUNG, about which Paul is far more positive, which has a stock rating of 9.

Perhaps because of some pretty unhelpful comments from Paulypilot...

Very positive report all in all and ahead of management's expectations. Commercial heating sales fallen off a little but Diffusion clearly growing well. A nice doubling of the dividend as well. Well done!
