Ditto
Well done for being the only large holder to have the balls to stand up against the ongoing destruction of what was a good company. Hang your heads in shame all you other large holders.

Cambridge innovators develop digital checklist-based Food Safety Management System

Cambridge, 6 April 2016: Food safety across the UK will be radically improved through an innovative new development created by a Cambridge partnership and announced today. Checkit, the leader in automated monitoring and work management solutions across food, safety and facilities management, has partnered with Cambridge City Council in a flagship initiative to develop a next generation cloud-based food safety management system, which will revolutionise food safety compliance.

The system, which builds upon the Food Standards Agency’s Safer Food Better Business, enables all food businesses, whether a single restaurant or a UK-wide chain, hospital or even a school, to replace their paper-based system with interactive digital checklists and automated cloud-based monitoring, to give improved compliance, control and visibility.

Through the Primary Authority Partnership, Cambridge City Council has approved the use of the Checkit solution as a food safety management system, clearing the way for widespread adoption of the new technology. Through the partnership, Cambridge City Council is able to provide confidence and advice to Checkit customers who sign up as partner businesses, and confirmation to other food authorities across the UK that Checkit is able to fulfil the legal requirements food businesses must have.

The advanced Checkit system has been created to fully digitise the management and recording of tasks. It comprises four elements – the Memo, a handheld unit that displays scheduled tasks to staff, guiding them to ensure they comply with business processes and procedures, and then automatically recording and date-stamping their actions; handheld probes that allow the checking of temperatures and the wireless Internet–of-Things sensors that can automatically monitor temperature, humidity or door status, 24/7.

All of the data feeds to the Checkit Control Centre. This is cloud-based management and monitoring software that provides businesses with real-time control and visibility over all of their operations. It enables managers to see at a glance which food safety tasks have been completed, and which have not. Checkit provides a verified audit trail that gives a full account of the business’s food safety activities, or an accurate, at-a-glance overview of the state of compliance. This summary is ideal for area managers, or even, if requested, for enforcement officers.

“Checkit can provide a complete digital record of all of the tasks carried out by the business. It gives an accurate and verifiable record of compliance which benefits all good food businesses, and so offers the best opportunity for the business to succeed and achieve a high food rating,” said Frank Harrison, Manager of the Commercial Team of Cambridge City Council. “In a workplace where paper-based records are easily damaged, lost, or simply not available, a digital system which is always ready for use, makes record-keeping easy, accurate and fast, thereby saving the business time and money, while offering minimal disruption to the operations.”

As well as affecting the health of consumers, poor food safety also has a significant business impact, including leading to loss of custom, reputational damage, lower revenues, and potential prosecution. All of these can lead to the collapse of the business.

Food businesses, including restaurants, supermarkets, schools and hospitals, are rated under the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme which publically displays the current ratings of qualifying food businesses. The maintenance of a complete and accurate food safety management system is essential for legal compliance, and to achieve a good food hygiene rating; Checkit allows the business to achieve this, enabling checklists to be created and monitored around processes including food storage procedures and cleanliness.

“Cambridge has a global reputation for innovative ideas, and this partnership is a perfect example of public and private sectors working together to transform how task-based businesses, such as those in the food industry, operate,” said Martin Nash, Product Line Manager, Checkit. “Digital checklists are key to automating control over previously manual processes. We believe food safety is just the first application for our technology and are already seeing multiple applications in areas as diverse as healthcare and facilities management, where we can assist organisations in increasing efficiency and real-time control.”

“This Primary Authority Partnership shows that Cambridge City Council is committed to working with local business, and recognises the national benefit that good partnership working can achieve. This partnership, which aims to develop and improve food safety, both in the local area and further afield, is an excellent example of innovative work helping to improve our commercial sector and food safety as a whole,” said Councillor Peter Roberts, Executive Councillor for Environment and Waste. Cambridge City Council. “As a council we are committed to supporting Cambridge innovation, with its impact across the UK. Our work with Checkit demonstrates the benefits of good partnership working. It ensures that the highest standards of food safety and hygiene can be maintained even in an increasingly technical world; this cloud-based food safety management system is the natural progression of the paper version most widely used, and will help advance food safety to an higher level.”

Many people have built excellent companies and businesses over the years without this constant whining about macroeconomic conditions. A couple of months ago it was dead cheap to buy in europe, now the £ to € has shifted nearly 10p and its cheap for europe to buy here. thats business, the economic climate is constantly changing, only EKT seems to think this is not the norm !!
Very soon we will get the figures for this year, Now Daley has taken control of Checkit himself let hope we don't get the usual " wilson commented this " at the end of the statement, lets hear what Daley has to say now he has nailed his colours to the mast

Off topic apologies to thread creator:

Food small margin business, but competent and hard working people can build profitable businesses. Bernard O Malley from Southport built a £2.5 million food produce business in 1988 to over £100 million today...

Stokers Holdings again a family run business from Southport with multiple furniture stores have a very good profitable business with a circa £30 million a year turnover and steady profits currently in excess of £2.5 million per annum.

Despite the UK seen a massive consumer downturn and shops struggling Stokers have bucked the trend....

Update on derivative action:

My barrister Richard Colbey has now lodged a advocate statement on my behalf in relation to the oral hearing, for permission to appeal. This will be heard in the court of appeal next Wednesday on the 20th April, at the Royal Courts of Justice in London. The matter will be heard by the Lord Chief Justice Kitchin.

Birketts the company lawyers have written to the court stating that under Rule 16.2 and under Practice Direction 52C they are not expected to attend, however their Barrister Seb Oram will however attend.

The defendants solicitors Marshalls have also indicated that under the same practice rules they do not have to attend however their representative Barrister Mr Miall will be present. Mr Miall is not expected to make any submissions however.

I have been a holder since 2006 - there was a point when I should have sold but the Chairman was a regular buyer and that gave me confidence. It has been a disaster, The reports sound attractive but it goes nowhere and the Chairman is absent from the purchase list these days. On the 23rd there was a large sale (or at 6 was it a buy?) Reckon I have to hold and hope and I cannot muster much of that.

Agree CT
EKT is breaking even on bottom line and cash, bank debt is under control but there is no profit, no growth and no dividend. Net Tangible Assets per share must still be around the 2p per share mark. Not much of a value proposition even at 6p ...

1/ Well they were not both sells or the share price would have collapsed on the second 1.8m
2/ People organise their tax before the last day...lol
3 And ISa was an example not a statement. Someone sold and rebought 1.8m that's all. The share price dropped on the other 135k sells.
But if you have proof it was a 3.6m sale then please elaborate :-).

Some news on one of EKT's shareholders in my town...

Perloff bought one of the best iconic properties in Southport for £4 million, off the Pedlar family. Lord St Properties have recently spent £2 million on refurbishment. The Wayfarers arcade is in a prime position in Southport and it achieves over £650k in rents with a further potential of circa £80k on empty shops.

Its looks a bargain buy at the price. I am surprised at the Pedlar family selling for £4 million.

I often go into Wayfarers as I walk through the arcade which takes me onto the prom. Its a nice arcade.
