Will this be the new sector to boom then? As poker is no longer flavour of the month and every masn and his dog is creating a gaming site Mahjong may provide bagging opportunities. Aswell as the above we ve got BETEX on Ofex who are the frst western company in China with the state lottery with mahjong mania bolted on too, will be exciting in the medium term i think. Bound to a take over target aswell as market cap is only circa 21 mill with great potential upside.

I have been playing mahjong for over 15 years. It truly is one of the all time great gambling games ever devised and the chinese population play this without ever getting bored.

There is an element of luck but in the med/long term, the skill factor is very prominent.

However, the game IS quite complex and takes a long time to learn as opposed to simpler games like Texas Hold'em. It can take years to get good at Mahjong.

People who are lazy on a general scale will find much more interest in simpler games like Texas Hold'em which take a minute to learn a lifetime to master. Mahjong takes a few days/weeks to learn and a lifetime to master.

Also, the fact that chinese characters are inherent to the game means that non-chinese will have a hard time wanting to learn the game. They would need to learn how to count from 1-10 in chinese for a start.

Online gambling at mahjong will never take off because it is inflexible. You always need 4 people to play a game. And if any of those people drop out, you cannot complete the game. It is not like poker where people can come and go.

Also with only 4 people to a table, it is a lot easier to cheat online.

I have thought about online mahjong trying to follow an online poker business model but in conclusion as expressed by my main points above, mahjong for money on the net will never take off in a big way. Mahjong for play money is already around on sites such as yahoo.com games.

Could this be the next poker? Mahjong is played for money by more people in the world than any other game. Ignored to date in the gold rush for western gambling games, has the time now come to pay attention to the 1.3Bn chinese, not the mention the Japanese,Taiwanese and Koreans that play this game?

Changed symbol to DNY on TSX.
