27/1/2017 14:47 | Tanzania, Dangote to unlock stalemate over coalDangote Cement, the country's most powerful cement manufacturer, suspended production at its $500 million Mtwara plant citing "non-serious technical issues." Analysts say that the shutdown was aimed at pressuring the government to lift its ban on coal imports or compel it to sell natural gas at a preferential price. Dangote Cement argues that buying natural gas at the "Dar es Salaam price" while the plant is located at the source of the commodity does not make business sense. Mr Mwijage said Dangote's decision to import coal did not make sense because is was expensive compared with buying the commodity from local producers. http://www.theeastaf | tidy 2

27/1/2017 12:25 | Tidy 2 I do not want to go on and have a silly school boy slanging match as we are all grown up investors who want to get the best from our investments. Only new information not in public domain should be added as it could result in our investment choice. Repeated post of RNS extract add nothing to newbie or the existing knowledge as they can get that straight from RNS's anyway | glasswala

27/1/2017 11:30 | From what I can read in the media Dangote cement owned by Africa's richest business man has closed his massive cement factory in Tanzania. Apparently the plant used $4m gas each month and local gas supplies were promised. This did not come and they had to import coal from elsewhere in Africa at @ £100 + tonne. The import coal ban in Tanzania now makes this not possible. He wouldn't use Tanzanian coal due to poorer quality. It would be interesting whether he would simply mothball such a cement plant worth apparently $500m. May be EDL see this as a commercial opportunity now coal quality has been proven and supplies cheaper then elsewhere in Africa. The coal ban strengthens EDLs position to supply Dangote. A deal to be struck? | tidy 2
