29/4/2013 09:56 | Nigel Wray gone over 17.5% Feels like these will get taken still out imo CR | cockneyrebel
09/4/2013 11:33 | Yes indeed....Second hand sales info would be very useful. I wonder what the depreciation levels are for both types of cabs after say two years and three years when resold? Has anyone spoken to management here so that we can get a feel for the secondary market? Do Eco sell second hand traded in TX1-4s ? | davidosh
09/4/2013 11:24 | To sow the seed - remember it's not just about new sales, ECV after sales is an important part of the business and also ECV stated in their June 12 interims issued in Sept that Used Taxi Sales increased 39%. It would be good to here something strategic from the new CEO Mr Parker. | mortimer7
08/4/2013 09:18 | Hi davidosh/kinbasket, this is an extract from my post 132: P.22 shows the age distribution of registered taxis (to 2009) which reveals there were approx 1,600 cabs registered in 1998-2000, falling to 1,100-1,500 over the next five years - so plenty of cabs to leave London's roads. P.23 gives an even more granular breakdown of these taxis, showing there were 6,000-odd TX1s registered in 1997-2002, before the TX2 entered service. | strollingmolby
08/4/2013 07:54 | I thought the same. I've been trying to find detailed information on the total number of Black cabs in circulation but it just isn't available. Obviously a lot of older cabs end up parked on driveways or being driven across Asia by students. Total number of cabs doesn't equal total number of active drivers. If we assume that the total number of cabs is 25k and the replacement cycle is 15 years (180 months) that's just under 140 cabs per month if the age distribution is even. What that doesn't account for is how many drivers of the older cabs just sell up and either retire or find another job. There's been plenty of stories in the news about how business in the city for black cabs is down since the GFC, I wonder if there is a fall off in the total number of actual working cabbies ? This is a potential problem for both LTI and Merc cabs. The upside is that ECV is still outselling the opposition but there may be a cyclical headwind here. FWIW I think ECVs long term future will be decided by it's success in markets outside London. There are countries in Europe where ALL cabs are Mercs. It's a lot easier to persuade a cabbie already in a Merc to swap to a bigger one than to get a cabbie to switch marques. Whether that happens under the current corporate structure or not remains to be seen. | kinbasket
07/4/2013 21:06 | So total taxi sales have fallen this year from 296 down to 114. Are these figures accurate ? Are there some amazing second hand market figures we are missing? I thought the phasing out of the older taxis would mean much higher new cab sales but these figures show dramatic falls ? Can anyone explain ? | davidosh
07/4/2013 10:01 | Initially dissappointing to see that more Vitos weren't registered in the crucial March month, only matching the Mar-12 registrations. This was hoped to be the month that ECV could really gain a competitive advantage over LTI by getting huge numbers sold and on the road, but to some extent LTI restricted this by selling 23 cabs from their huge stockpile of cabs now without the junk Chinese steering racks. However, ECV's 91 does match the Mar-12 data, and is only two behind their best ever month of registrations from Mar-10 (93). Furthermore, in Q1'13 ECV has achieved an 89.8% market share (202 v 23), and over the last five months ECV has out-sold LTI by almost 10 to 1 (302 v 32). These are sales that LTI won't get back for some time, if at all, so the Vito edges that little bit further ahead in popularity with cab drivers as the taxi to buy going forward. And as a company, ECV has greatly reduced its debt and is well-placed going forward, so I share CR's optimism. (but let's not forget the two elephants in the room - LTI and Nissan who will both be looking for market share later in the year) | strollingmolby
05/4/2013 10:25 | March sales out on SMMT Mar13 Mar12 Merc 91 91 LTI 23 205 | phowdo
05/4/2013 09:37 | I see today the SMMT have announced their figures for New Car Registrations for the new plate change month of March, which are very positive. So I'd expect the Van figures imminently. Wonder how ECV have done with Merc VITO's. | mortimer7
03/4/2013 18:12 | A couple of late reported buys by the looks of things. | protean
03/4/2013 09:50 | A bid at 4p+ by year end imo. One of the other two Taxi co's will want to take them out or Private Equity imo. All imo/dyor etc. CR | cockneyrebel
02/4/2013 10:35 | Nigel Wray upping his stake, new CEo. All looking good for a bit of action here imo. CR | cockneyrebel
02/4/2013 08:36 | RNS story released today "Eco City Vehicles, the co-developer and exclusive supplier of the London licensed Mercedes Vito taxi, is pleased to announce the appointment of Trevor Parker as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the Group's next phase of development, effective 2 April 2013." | mortimer7
28/3/2013 08:37 | A couple of bits of press: "Nigel Wray, the Serial entrepreneur and Saracens chairman, has upped his stake in the Aim-listed cab maker Eco City Vehicles to 15.27 per cent. The shares drove up 0.08p to 1.75p." "Serial entrepreneur and Saracens chairman Nigel Wray has upped his stake in cabmaker Eco City Vehicles to 15.27%. Eco City, founded by Peter DaCosta, is credited with breaking Manganese Bronze's monopoly in the London cab business. The shares today stalled at 1.68p." | protean
28/3/2013 08:19 | Id suggest the sellers were PIs who bought the excitement spike at 2p+ and then sold the dip. Typical AIM investor behaviour... :) Edit: Shareprice had been sitting at 1.65p BID for a while with virtually only sells, so Id imagine Wray had his buy being worked through. | phowdo
28/3/2013 08:12 | Got this in my annual stockchallenge but not one of the better ones so far! | protean
28/3/2013 08:11 | Looks like a double bottom in the header chart CR with Wray timing his entry top-up nicely. Recent price action seems to be in the opposite direction to the real story as per the last update. "John Swingewood, Chairman, said: "We are delighted with the continued improvement in performance over the last year and the return to positive EBITDA. This year has also seen a significant reduction in debt, disposal of non-core assets and the consolidation of our controlling position in One80 Limited that earns revenue through intellectual property licence fees from the manufacture of the Vito Taxi. "We look forward to further increasing our market share, geographical expansion and product and service Innovation in the coming year."" | protean
28/3/2013 07:48 | Bounced off the longer term resistance on volume - return to the highs and beyond now? Wondering if Wray took the rump of a seller's stock this week? | cockneyrebel
27/3/2013 10:43 | A bid target for who ? Got anyone in mind ? | kinbasket
27/3/2013 10:33 | yep, over 15% - I think ECV are a bid target before the year's out imo. Wray will let his load go to a bidder imo, at a decent preium to the highest price he's paid too imo. CR | cockneyrebel
27/3/2013 09:26 | RNS today confirming Nigel Wray/Pershing Nominees sunstantially increased stake by 6 million shares to 15.27%. | mortimer7
27/3/2013 09:24 | Nigel Wray increased his position by 6M. He must be confident, although he does play the long game. | phowdo
26/3/2013 17:23 | 4 million share buy today @ 1.68, total £67200. Hope this means March Regns are high & good news is on the way. | mortimer7
