29/12/2005 17:08 | Continues to amaze me how investors can ignore IT's compared to far riskier single shares. The staggering growth levels of New Europe, Japan, Latin America and certain Far East (India) IT's (and UT's) - 60% to 90% typical over last 12 months, and the lack of interest of the majority of the market investors - their loss, our gain. Only a few single shares (e.g. VOG) can beat these results. EST, BEE, etc. now about to regain their pre-October heights. New Year here we come. | hgiderek
14/10/2005 12:59 | Is avian flu in Turkey having an impact on EST and Barings Emerging Europe? | greenpastures
08/10/2005 23:07 | Link to Telegraph article | relko
08/10/2005 20:40 | Good article about EST in the Daily Telegraph today, I'm in next week. Nephin PS. In the F.T. as well, I'm definatly in next week now. | nephin
06/10/2005 10:50 | here's your dip, Ben:-) | teapreacher
03/10/2005 11:51 | hgiderek this is quietly outstanding.... I will buy on a dip and join you. | ben gunn
21/9/2005 21:57 | Hi guys. For anyone interested, I have just revamped the header on the Baring Emerging Europe (BEE) thread and included a link to here. For charts comparing BEE with EST over several timeframes, see post No 1 there | m.t.glass
18/9/2005 14:27 | The Lex column is less optimistic about Russia, saying that high oil prices have allowed the Government to postpone much needed reforms. | greenpastures
17/9/2005 11:16 | I always look to Hermitage fund for over-views of the Russian market - if I had $100K to invest, that's where it would go. The August newsletter states "the market in August reached a psychological tipping point...." - basically, the Yukos nightmare is over, and the true, resources-led Russian growth can shine through. | hgiderek
16/9/2005 20:08 | Must admit I am a bit perplexed at the sharp rise the last few days. The discount has almost disappeared. I know some trusts trade at a premium for exampe JP Morgan's Indian Investment Trust. Barings Emerging Countries trust (BEE) has also risen in tandem with EST so perhaps it is renewed confidence in Russia or Eastern Europe that is the cause of the rise. | greenpastures
16/9/2005 18:38 | You're quite right, greenpastures. Probably 'crowd psychology. Still - up 5+% today - works for me ! | hgiderek
15/9/2005 20:40 | I think you will find it is a fact that the shares that have masses of followers on bbs are usually not the best performers. | greenpastures
15/9/2005 12:38 | Funny innit ! How this trust keeps on making loads for us, but no-one follows it - some exciting single share that loses us money (e.g. FPL) gets loads of constant attention. Strange world. | hgiderek
21/6/2005 10:29 | ie for each one share you held and which were worth say £17.50, you've now got 10 shares each worth £1.75. so, no gain or loss in value. | rambutan2
21/6/2005 09:12 | No, we have ten times as many shares now. So our holding is worth the same as before. | bapcav
20/6/2005 17:07 | rambutan2 i am new to this so it is a new term "share split". Does that mean all the people who had shares in the company when it was £18 now lost out because of the share falling to around £1.80? Also who decides the share split? | jahid
20/6/2005 15:10 | 10:1 share split jahid, in order to make them more easily tradeable. so, no worries. | rambutan2
20/6/2005 13:17 | Does anyone know if there has been any information out in regards to why EST's share price dropped by 90% today? I would be interested to know people's opinions and reports. | jahid
17/6/2005 20:40 | Is this subdivision a.k.a a share split? | pogel
06/5/2005 15:15 | yes, svg seems to be getting better and better and accessing some fantastic specialist funds such as the brazilian fund in the latest monthly... uniquely amongst its they able to do this due to the trust being born out of the shell of something with loads of tax losses - the manager told me that! regards rambutan | rambutan2
06/5/2005 15:10 | Yes Ram, the comparative performance of the two does confirm that. I guess Jupiter performance could suffer a bit with the manager being away. I do hold SVG from sometime back- yes, excellent managers. [ as you know, they are also holders of one of our favorite splits, BSOU ] | mangal
06/5/2005 14:15 | hi mangal, i think that the manager of this one is a little bit better than bee. i also like the move into turkey. re the jupiter ut, isnt the manager about to take leave to have a kid? worth noting that svm global (svg) is a long time bull on eastern europe and the managers have invested in some v good specialist region funds... | rambutan2
06/5/2005 09:18 | Thanks for your feedback hgiderek. 100k is well beyond me. You might like to have look at a useful article I found on the BEE thread: | mangal
06/5/2005 07:34 | mangal I've got money in all three you've mentioned - mainly in EST. Credit Suisse also have one, but I don't rate them much. If you've got $100K to spare, then the Hermitage Fund undoubtably has the Warren Buffet touch. I use the BestInvest site to research most funds - manager analysis is invaluable. Good luck. | hgiderek
05/5/2005 08:45 | I'm looking to invest in a Eastern European fund for the long term. I like both EST, BEE & also the Jupiter UT. Any others? Any thoughts on which one to go for or invest equally in all? | mangal |
