Don't get me wrong, I bought on the fundamentals of the company - not the graph... those 'self-fulfilling prophesies' because so many follow them and why I made the comments I did. Have held since mid December.

I am into solid dividend stocks, except for several punts on very dodgy AIM stocks in make or break scenarios.

Cheers

I'm here - lurking: I post only rarely.

52p could be a bit of a barrier, but the recent 'higher low' is a good omen for the medium term share price - no reason why we shouldn't hit 60p.

Holding (in at 39.5p recently) and confident.
Cheers

Good to see a new thread and a rising
share price to go with it.
Not many posters on this thread yet,
which is a surprise considering the constant gains of late.
Anyone out there thinking of buying ?
I agree that general election news could be stiring a few
takers.

I don't think this consistent rise is election based .

I have been looking through the annual and interim reports along with statements from DRS and I think the recovery is based on the fact that there is now a general realisation that back in Nov 2004 the share price over-reacted on the downside. Finance directors don't always get their purchases right but in this case the fact that the finace director immediately took the opportunity to top up his holding to more than 400,000 shares suggests he thought that to .

DRS spent more than a million £s in 2004 developing their e-marker (R) products & services and are writing of that expenditure in 2004 . It what you might call a write off for the right reason ,ie ensuring sufficient capital is invested in ,what the management sees as an importaant growth area ,and not as is often the case particularly with larger companies , a write of on expenditure on some venture which in time proves to have been made largely to satisfy the CEO 's ego.

It's very encouraging that DRS has already benefited from that expenditure in that they recently secured a substantial order worth a minimum of £1,4 million from the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA). If you trawl through the history of expenditure vis a vis actual income/revenue return ( I am referring here to UK plc rather than DRS ) ,you will find that if the venture on which the expenditure has been made succeeds ,which all too often it doesn't, the income flow often dribbles in years later .

DRS has been around since 1969 -its not a new AIM float with an untried and barely tested management team . I believe investors ,who have a different agenda to day-traders, like to see the managers of their company planning ahead and not simply adopting the attitude that they can remain profitable with the same range of products that have served them well in the past.

One last point investors are probably very reasonably according premium ratings to companies which they have heard/read are developing or sometimes have announced that they are intending to develop, business with China.

I don't think its recognised at all that DRS are already there see

No one could claim that at this point in time DRS has a premium rating but if they secure more orders from their Chinese connection that could very easily change

Onwards and upwards. MMs are very short - could break 50p today.

Good to have a new thread with graphs on the top.

DRS now showing on ADVFNs "Gainers for 6 days" listing . Nice steady rise each day - nothing dramatic so there appears to be steady interest from somewhere.

The baby kissing ,old age pensioner meeting , new legislation season, is upon us - yes youv'e guessed it the General Election is looming .

For many people it's a giant turnoff but for some companies and the shareholders of these companies elections can't come soon enough .

If you look at the charts for DRS you will notice the shares bottomed recently and since then the price has picked up ,steadily supported by increased volume - I wonder why ? Could there be an election at hand - lots of forms - lots of counting lots of data sorting . At the moment I know nothing to support the idea that DRS Data Services will have a major part to play in these elections but, the recent steady increase in price and volume suggests they might.

The way I look at things is that if DRS are not involved in this 4 yearly moneyspinner then thats clearly not in the price .However, if they are and that information is still to be released the share price could have much further to run .

If you don't know what DRS does click here for a quick tour I think you will be impressed

The ADVFN " Financial " and "News " tabs are always sources of usefull information and should be used to double check facts and figures . Copies of the Annual and Interim reports for the last 3 years are available on DRS's own web site

Warning - even although it contains no advice reading the foregoing and acting on anything you have read could damage your financial health -

Doing a bit of searching round ADVFN and just noticed that DRS has appeared under the Toplists tag as a 4 week Price Breakout.
Looks very like the Financial Director knew what he was doing when he topped up his holding a few months ago .
Good luck to him I think every investor should want to see Directors having enough faith in what they are doing to take up substantial holdings .

From DRS website: 10th January 2005

Scottish Qualifications Authority modernise examination processing

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has announced that it has appointed data capture specialists, DRS to deploy its sophisticated Optical Mark Reading (OMR) and Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) technology for SQA examinations in Scotland. It will employ DRS to design, print and overprint National Qualifications objective test answer sheets and process them in its secure Bureau facility. The OCR/ICR technology developed and manufactured by DRS will be used to process 13 different multiple choice papers across five subject areas Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology and Human Biology for the 2005 exam diet.

It will be interesting to see what DRS reported earnings are when they adopt the new accounting standards, which states that development expenditure should be capitalised. Given that they are writing off current high levels of development expenditure, it should enhance the headline eps and the net asset position - provided, of course, that the developmment work is deemed to be of future value.

dell314,

Tebbutt was paid £75k basic plus a £30k bonus in 2003.

I also topped up this morning at 33p. This still looks a great long term bet to me. The share price is well supported by NTA, and the losses are only forecast because the company is taking the most prudent accounting approach available to it on R&D expenditure. A lot of companies' results would look rather sad if they charged R&D/exploration/etc costs straight to the P&L, rather than capitalising them and depreciating them over, say, 20 years.

Always nice to see an FD buying. Tend to be fairly prudent with their cash.

Purchase of Shares

I am writing to inform you that Arthur Mark Tebbutt, Finance Director and
Company Secretary, purchased 6,784 DRS shares today. 1,284 were purchased at a
price of 32p per share and 5,500 at a price of 33p per share. This increases
his interest in DRS to 449,856 shares (1.30% of the issued capital).

Yep, way overdone. This is a company with circa 22p/share in cash. On a historic PE of 8 ish, paying a 4% dividend (which they stated they would maintain in the recent trading statement!) and in an exciting growth area. All they've done is invested a little to make the future more profitable IMHO. I've re-bought this morning on the dip and tucked them away in my ISA for the long term.

price now 37p -2.5p

the bounce is pretty strong

I would say the buying is much more than the selling today and the price is still down on the day.

Sure that the shares will finish on the UP today

And now bouncing back strongly 34-5.5p

after a low of 30.5p, someone sold 25K at 33p below bid price as being over the NMS size earlier.
