JO Hambro - 9/4/24

Dowlais has noticeably failed to participate in the rally of global auto peers, driven principally by extended technical pressure post the Melrose demerger, higher interest costs and a non-cash impairment at Powder Metallurgy. This is despite good operational execution, a moderation of EV headwinds, margin expansion, a share buyback and multiple director share purchases. The pro forma balance sheet position, however, has warranted some attention given pension contributions, provisions and leases. Whilst no single issue is unsurmountable, the cumulative impact on an operationally geared business means we will tread forward with caution and with a disciplined absolute weight allocation.

Have bought some more this morning, just looks like a big seller forced price down, IMO this should trend back over a quid....DYOR as ever

Ff the big seller still clearing that would be depressing the price further. Gut says something else. Lets see.

From IC last week...DWL has reported a £449mn impairment charge relating to its powder metallurgy division, following a review of its medium-term prospects.
Is this a major worry? Views?

Yes, they are large buys. The directors were also happy to buy at much higher prices previously. Similar to the old Melrose pre split when the share price dropped to around 160p and they loaded up.

Huge buys by 2 Directors!! They are confident we have reached a low share price; but how long before its gets above 100p, I wonder?

Get the share buybacks going, should see a recovery in share price IMO, fall looks way overdone....DYOR

Happy with these. If they can maintain higher margins in H2 for next FY. Higher free cash flow will come. Lower net debt and increase div. Share price will rise significantly. All very achievable.
