07/4/2009 14:32 | Well there always is that possibility. We are being asked to trust practically the same set of people who never spotted the consumer credit bubble and never spotted the housing bubble. In fact many of them think the answer to all their problems would be for these to take off again in order kick start the economy. Politicians did nothing about loose credit because it kept them in power and clearly we now all know it kept the financial sector in unsustainable profitability. The fact remains that many jobs created over the past 20 years or so were only created by consumer demand fuelled by an over supply of easy credit. If that easy credit had not been there then those jobs would not have been created. So unemployment could be a huge problem for many years. Most of the time I am in Spain now and the situation here is very bad. People have bought ridiculously overpriced housing fuelled by rising wages but low productivity growth. You only have to walk round to see many businesses still over staffed and that is after a huge rise in unemployment over the past year. The Bank of Spain has predicted almost 20 percent by next year. You can only hope things improve but I think if a profit comes your way you have to take it even on cos on low multiples. | gerdmuller
07/4/2009 13:25 | makes you laugh, the elctronic age still hasnt had any effect on money that is actually going into your account, still seems to take as long as it did in the days of copperplate handwritten ledgers.of course a lot quicker when its going out of your account. any ideas on whether the markets will make new lows?i am hanging back for now as feel we could at least revisit the lows or even go lower. | funchalman
07/4/2009 13:05 | You had better ask Wossy about that. | gerdmuller

31/3/2009 13:18 | With a lot of good small cos on PEs at 5 or less makes you wonder what the price would be now if there had been no takeover. Market for small cos has deteriorated badly in the past year and maybe if these had waited a few months they would have got this cheaper. It would now be difficult to see it reaching 215p in this climate despite its quality. Well it does at least give some funds to target a few in the next months. The big question is when will small cos start to recover. Small investors have left the market and wont return and most funds wont invest in small caps either. But generally if the fundamentals are right and you are prepared to wait then things come right. Now where have I seen that before?????? | gerdmuller
31/3/2009 13:06 | Announcement now out. Looks like it will be a couple of weeks or so before payment depending how quick they are. | gerdmuller

25/3/2009 14:57 | Price gradually creeping up. Still not sure when payment will be due but not long now. | gerdmuller
20/3/2009 12:02 | I bought 1000 this morning at 208. That's about £60 or just under 3%, in about a month/6weeks. Happy enough with that. Maybe the opportunity cost of the money for KBC is high, and they want to recycle it into something with bigger upside potential. | sammu
20/3/2009 09:51 | KBC are still offering to sell 25000 at 210, according to L2. If the MMs hold stock, why wouldn't they keep it and cash it? | mctmct |
