Missed the Interims announcement. Divi etc now on the 'Financials' above.

Interim divi rises from 17.3 p last year to 18.1p payable on 4th Jan 2011.

Sound for income seekers.

Test the water dot com? Simple!!

zeppo - sorry, missed yr 159 above. Every so often I'll decide to take cash off the table, take a breather - that was the reason for my sale back then. I re-entered briefly @ 1035p for the recent chart breakout, but as we all know, dealing in any meaningful quantity isn't possible here.

O/T:

Went 20% liquid last Friday as once again I feel things are getting a tad extended; however this week I've bought back a recent top-slice in my favourite trading play over the past two years - EML. A stock that perhaps couldn't be more different than DVW - but one every bit as secure when you research it - not difficult, as at the moment it is just CASH - worth 2.83p/share v. the offer price of 2.6p.

Since the 7.13p special divi earlier this year when the Board paid out to shareholders the results from their last foray(Kalahari), the Dattels/Mellon duo have been looking for a home for the rump £10m cash - the seed capital for the next investment for this cash shell.

For the past 6months the share price has yo-yoed from 2p to 2.8p - always trading at a discount to cash. For the life of me I can't understand why it doesn't trade at a premium bearing in mind past performance with Uramin & Kalahari.

My opinion is that by buying at a discount to the NAV there is effectively ZERO risk & Blue Sky upside. It has been a loyal friend this stock; but I believe the best may still be yet to come. Worth taking a look....

(my thanks to Fingers on the £1 thread for the following chart)

Thank you.

I have corrected my previous posting with the edit button: DEVRO to the correct epic DVO.

I will follow IRV.

Most of mine are fully valued currently: JHD, DVO, NG., UU. and NWG.

We have some BA. and QQ. both lanquishing because of defence cutbacks etc.

If the QQ. results are continuing the dismal story when they come out later this month ouch!

Lord knows. Thankfully, dividends are coming back into 'fashion' and many companies which cut or waived theirs (several, with hindsight, entirely unnecessarily) are beginning to reinstate them. When my divi income dried up, I piled into corporate bonds (never paying above par) but that market went mad and I'm not happy to spend 107-112p to buy £1, whatever the yield!

I'm a fan of IRV (PER under 4x and 8.75% divi yield), but the market doesn't seem to agree with me and it's gone nowhere - yet. Still, as you can tell from DVW, I'm one of those prepared to sit and wait for the market to come to me!

If there is a ever premium on today's price and we both want income - where do we go next?

There was a buy. My broker said he bought some for a client for the reasons you suggest, zeppo (that it hadn't moved up in line with other water/utility stocks), and promply moved the price! The trouble is, it's so illiquid, it works both ways - buy a few and you drive the price up; try and sell 'em again and......! Like you, I hold for income but I really came in on anticipation of a bid when the industry was 'consolidating'. Come on, somebody, snap it up. Please!

Depending on how many you sell you may bring the price down again significantly.

I am in for income and am happy with the dividend policy.

later edit:

My broker does not see anything significant in the recent price movement. He believes that DVW is simply being adjusted after other utilities have been in demand and marked up.

I can find nothing by way of news - other than on the Website a regretful note about having failed to meet 'leakage targets'!
A very welcome jump - now, should I take a profit? Doesn't go ex-div for a month yet.

None voting shares up today.

Divi chasers or ?

(edit)

No actual trade found as yet.

If it has simply been marked up to follow the ordinaries is it significant?

These shares must be very tightly held.

Few shares have been traded today but there is a significant mark up.

Results in about one month's time.

Good idea but it was a few years ago now and he and the shareholders sold out to Guy Hands.

Well I hope our MD isn't "turn(ing) down offers of interest to buy the water business daily". I was hoping this would be gobbled up years ago. Tell your mate at ESW to send 'em round to us!

Could be movement here. Axa has sold some of it business to Resolution. It may mean they look to sell or reduce their holding. The last MD of a water company (ESH East Surrey Water) I spoke to said he was having to turn down offers of interest to buy the water business daily! I wonder if that is as true today for Dee Valley?

Resolution of course may not be interested in selling.

I admire your courage and decisiveness.

Do you believe that the markets are going to get even weaker?

Possibly you have a non-stock market agenda for your cash.

Hope we see you posting elsewhere or even back here.

Sold the 2nd half of my holding today as they're now XD without any markdown, the equiv. of a 3% increase when the wider market is headed lower. Like the stock; but prefer to build up my cash balance at the moment.

zeppo (#150),

Yes, I know what you mean. I'm in the same boat. My portfolio was built around divi-paying stocks and now about half the bu88ers have either waived or reduced their divis even when they are still making reasonable earnings per share ('debt reduction', 'cash conservation', 'unclear outlook'.....you know the sort of thing). It's just that, besides income, I like to see capital growth and I don't see this one going too far on fundamentals - it's hardly a growth stock - and a bid seemed the most likely to achieve that. As you say, what you would reinvest in if.......?
