28/4/2015 19:04 | GDP disappoints at 0.3% GDP was half the previous quarter and according to Peston there will be little growth without more shoppers! So what is my take? Well according to the IFS whoever wins the election consumers will have less money to spend, therefore I need more evidence that Debenhams has turned the corner... | simon templar qc
27/4/2015 10:43 | 25% off what though ? Still costs an arm and a leg to buy a frock | pillion
26/4/2015 10:22 | Yep, petrol is higher now than in Jan ST, but it's down a lot from a year ago still. Anyway, I wouldn't look too much at one months retail numbers - there's weather, Easter and other factors that make a lot of things vary imo - you need to look a a 3 month trend for a true view imo. Anyway, as an aside - a small local high street near me has had 6+ retail outlets up for sale for 3 years - the whole lot have been taken in the last 6 months and all occupied. The high street is about to make a comeback imo. CR | cockneyrebel
26/4/2015 08:21 | All Retailers have regular sales and there are constant 'Special Days' online now. | isis
25/4/2015 22:50 | Seen DEB sale on TV Neighbour just returned from town; she was in changing room queue at DEBs for more than an hour and gave up, says store was chokka ! Buying more on Monday !! | pillion
24/4/2015 19:25 | More evidence on High St as French Connection issue profit warning.. | simon templar qc
23/4/2015 21:17 | Retail sales fell in March however they were up 4.5% year on year... So what to make of the figures? Debenhams UK up 2.5% isn't matching total retail spend of 4.5%. Conclusion: Debenhams profits up on better margin through slightly less discounting however UK sales aren't matching overall retail growth. If the company had have matched or improved retail sales growth it would have given me more reassurance that Debenhams had turned the corner. Thanks for comments on Petrol sales to be perfectly honest I am not sure why the steep fall. | simon templar qc
23/4/2015 21:08 | Yep, but what you have to remember is petrol has fallen a lot in price over 1 year - so even if we spent a lot less on fuel we may have driven a lot more - it's just that petrol is cheaper. All imo CR | cockneyrebel
23/4/2015 20:18 | City comments on retail sales: Sharp fall in petrol sales have distorted the figures. | simon templar qc
23/4/2015 20:10 | CR I agree you would have expected better of the BBC. Clothing sales were subdued however in March albeit the BBC only "defined" the High St in their articles of today. Hope this link helps clarify the situation a little better.. What the retail data also revealed today was a 6% decrease in Petrol spend which intimates less went out shopping in any event. | simon templar qc
23/4/2015 18:46 | Undefined tho isn't it ST ? If supermarkets were particularly weak then other areas in retail like home improvements and clothing may have done better. Early spring weather should be good for clothing sales imo. CR | cockneyrebel
23/4/2015 18:38 | Retail sales not picking up as market expected... | simon templar qc
23/4/2015 00:10 | Sales are nothing new they will always be there. | isis
22/4/2015 23:11 | Sale at Easter and another sale today and then there is bound to be a sale on in 10 days time at Bank Holiday. They are relying on less sales but I think regular sales are here for a long while yet. Better results than market expected but like Marks one swallow doesn't make a summer! Steady for now. | simon templar qc
20/4/2015 12:25 | Ms Pillion was in a large Liverpool DEB store yesterday; says it was chocker..... ...bought a frock too | pillion
20/4/2015 12:22 | Is Deb really a born again Next ? | pillion
20/4/2015 08:41 | Breakout on Friday, next resistance levels some way highr: free stock charts from uk.advfn.com All imo CR | cockneyrebel
20/4/2015 08:39 | Yes, stores will be having sales but it's an end to the everlasting sales that MTC and DEB have done in the past and they will benefit from that. Sales are vanity, profit is sanity imo. CR | cockneyrebel
18/4/2015 23:25 | CR re your link-a similar story in the Mail however as Pillion indicates they are still having sales as most retailers do and Blue Cross Sales at that. Profits better than the markets expected whether they will be hit with uncertainty after the election is another matter. The opposition want a higher minimum wage that will affect overheads if the opposition get into power. | simon templar qc
18/4/2015 23:07 | One day sale; -- Next Wednesday | pillion
17/4/2015 10:40 | well the market clearly like them ayl30 ! m | maurillac |
